Another project bike.

Today I went and looked at a 2002 ZX9R that a friend of mine is selling. Him and his wife are having a baby and she wouldn't able to ride for a while so he wants it gone. He bought it from a repo auction and the original owner had removed the plastics for paint before it was reposed. My friend was able to track down the body shop that had the plastics and talked them into selling them to him. He has bought almost everything need to put it back together. It starts and runs but it needs to be repainted (it is PINK!). It has a little over 12,000 miles on it and the title is free and clear. I'm going to go put some money down on it Tuesday. Since building my TLS has drained my wallet, he is going to let me make payments to him. We are going to write up a payment agreement on paper. I didn't get any good pics of it cause his garage was too dark for my phone. He has a vid of it after he cleaned the carbs. It is mostly stock with a K&N filter and a D&D slip-on. It sounds good!

Re: Another project bike.

Today I went and paid some more money on my ZX9R and picked up the plastics and a few other bits. The plastics need to be painted cause pink is not my color. I'm thinking black tail and belly pan and the rest blue.

$2,500 is what I'm paying for it. The paint is not finished. It only has a base coat sprayed on it. So since it would have to got to paint to finish it, I might as well have it painted the colors I want.

Yeah my buddy is giving me a good deal on it. He has tried to sell it for a while but know one seems to want a half assembled bike. Project bikes are my specialty.

He wanted to sell me his 86 Yamaha Fazer but I would probably kill myself on it. It is stretched 8", NOS, 2 stage rev control, centrifugal locking clutch, air shifter, and was dynoed at 195 with NOS. He has been building drag bikes for years.

Re: Another project bike.

I finally got my ZX9R home.

Notice how far the forks are dropped triples. There is only maybe 3" of travel between the lower triple clamp and the lower fork tubes.

Check out the home made lowering links and the sheared off grease zerks on the very bottom of the shock link.

Stubby kickstand.

And the where is waldo pic. The TLS is in there somewhere.

Yep. It is no twin. It just sounded weird when I rode it down my street.

Re: Another project bike.

I have raised the bike up 2" and I'm waiting on a sidestand to arrive in the mail to replace the stubby one. I plan on repainting the plastics blue with the tail and belly pan black. I'm still sorting out what I'm missing. Mostly fairing hardware. I'm assuming the headlight came from a 00-01 cause the harness connector doesn't match up. Here is a few pics.

Re: Another project bike.

As far as I know, 2000+ all use the same headlight, as do some years ZX6R and ZZR600.

Re: Another project bike.

I was finally able to install the fairings with a fairing bolt kit from bikebolts. I should be able to strip it back apart soon for paint.

Here is a few pics.

Re: Another project bike.

I talked to my painter about what I want. He is pretty good at getting the color mixed right.

I always thought those were really neat bikes. Great find. I always thought that they looked great in all pearl white. I can't wait to see the final outcome. Congrats!!!

Re: Another project bike.

I had a buddy with the maroon and silver...believe it was a 95 He had a Hindle pipe, tuned, and added a couple of teeth in the rear. She could still do ridiculous speed in 1st gear. The 9R is a bad mama!

Re: Another project bike.

I have only been able to ride it up and down my street since I haven't registered it yet. It has a K&N filter and D&D slip-on and I think it needs a jet kit. It hesitates when I roll on it at part throttle.

Rob,

If you don't pick a color soon, I'm going to ship you one of my wife's purses.
