1st gear whine

Hey guys my tlr whines in st gear local bike expert has said the bearing is shot and likely to give up with major damage, anyone heard of this? can you change gearbox bearing without stripping the engine?cheers Phil

they whine in first and after that they still whine you just cant hear em.

If you take out the scissor gears you will hear clacking instead but the whine will still be there

scissor gears are cam gears theat limit cam chain slop.

you should leave then in

also heard that this is result of square cut gears nothing you can do but enjoy it ...IMHO

co if the bearing did need replacing can it be done without a complete engine strip??

If there is metal in the cleanout or in th eoil then you have and issue.

If there is a whine you can hear only in first you should be ok. If there is rattling or grinding then you have an issue.

ok will drop oil ans see what is the cleanout? worst case can you get to gearbox without a complete engine strip?

no need to waste oil unless its due

on the sidestand you can check the cleanout plug. looks like an oil plug and its just under the clutch

no you cannot get to the gearbox without stripping the engine, you can take the shifter cover off to inspect the shaft but that is it.

Ok guys have checked cleanout and there is debris in there looks like chrome from the bearings. What do i do now? don't feel confident to strip engine looks too complicated...HELP!!!

If you can't do it yourself, you'll have to pay someone to do it.

If Sam doesn't have much on, he might do it for you, but he's on holidays at the moment. You'll have to wait until he gets back.

how hard are they to do?? I rebuild suzuki gt750 engines all the time but they 2 strokes easy.
