  • 180 rear tire for TL1000R?

I noticced that many of you have 180 rear tires vs. stock 190. Can I put one on my 99' TL1000R stock rim? And how does it ride vs. the 190?
    Thanks

Alot more flickable.. FYI the M-1 180 is alot more narrower than the Dunlop 207. I will be doing a M-1 190 next... This thing is too squiggly. The Dunlop 207 180 was awesome. It just didn't last long.

of course you can. the 180/55x17 has a taller profile so turn in is better. you have less contact area than the 190, but it doesn't seem to bother all of us who have switched.

Nah. It is the 55 part that shows you are serious.

I have a 180 BT-020 on my TL-R right now. I'm still not sold on it being the hot setup. Sure, it turns in faster. But, and this is a pretty big but, every time I do a track day, I ride off the edge of the rear:

And I don't think it's a matter of not getting off the bike enough:

My style is to carry lots of corner speed. It comes from years of racing a 366 lb 400cc Honda, I guess. I love diving under other riders on the brakes.

So the problem I have is when I'm heeled over, and I start feeding in throttle, the rear spins up in a nasty, nasty way.

I know that the BT-020 is a sport touring tire, and this kind of behavior does not particularly suit this tire. But I used to ride just as hard on Dunlop D220s on my VFR.

I'll likely spoon on a 180 BT-010 before my next track day (which is just two weeks away).

i agree with Slapper. I've done track days on a 190/50 and recently on a 180/55, there is a difference in stability, well i noticed it, and it wasn't confidence inspiring. Though i did like how it turned in a bit quicker. I'll be trying out the 190/55 this weekend at spokane, so hopefully it'll give the stability of the 190/50 and the quicker turn in of the 180/55.

I've got a 180 207 zr and the thing's a piece of shit. fat wide and turns slower than a fat person walking around a corner. Next will be 180 M-1's. I had 208 gp's on my tls and they rocked. they held up all the way over to the pegs scraping.
Why yes I am a jackass, thank you.
