  • Yoshi: RS3 vs Zyclone mufflers

    howdy,

just a simple question for those knowing: how to distinguish zyclone and race-only bolt-on from the first glance? is there a label or smth clearly saying "Zyclone"?

    thanx,

On the Race pipes the outlet is more oval or elongated. While on the zyclone the outlet is round.

Zyclones have a distinct inner pipe within the outlet, from what I've seen. Kind of like the stockers. You should be able to tell at a glance from the rear of the bike. The race pipes are "empty" and have no "tube within a tube", just a straight shot single pipe with a bunch of holes on the inside.

        Yep...

Here's a shot of the RS3 'Race' cans. You can see how large the opening is. With Zyclone cans you'd see a second pipe with in the outlet as tlrpunk described.

thank you, guys. looks like i'm a happy owner of the race only cans now... will tell you for sure as i start the bike after installation -- hope, they do sound differently?

ps: i must note that i ordered zyclones to keep peace with the neighbourhood when i leave at 7 am

They sound real nice. Once you hear them you'll be glad they didn't send you the Zyclones. I don't think your neighbors will be too upset either. The bolt-on's aren't as loud as a full system, but they still light up those car alarms when whack the throttle!

its an easy switch...just order the insides of the race cans ..you might have to change the outlet to ...i did this on my gsxr and was fairly cheap $80 ..but that was for one can ...

or you can just take some time and cut the baffles out. I did it to the zyclones that were on my TL when I got it. Took about 2 hours per can, but they sound much better now.
