  • Leaking gas tank!

All right here's the deal. I just bought a used gas tank for my 98 TLR as mine was dented. Anyway I installed the in-tank pump and all that, threw it on the bike and poured about a gallon in it to check for leaks.....and sure enough it leaks like a bastard ! SOB!! Anybody have the fuel pump/sending unit crap out of their tanks and have this problem?

When I put it together I didn't use sealant of any kind because it is a rubber gasket that goes between the tank and the fuel pump. Everything looked to be in great shape. Any ideas?

Thanks for any advice on the subject.

What you want is Permatex #2 non hardening sealant. Is is resistant to gasoline, and most others are not.

Also check the gasket sealing surface for rust.

Do the bolts up in a criss cross fashion and don't over-tighten them.

same thing happened to me dude...

tank went away for painting...the $%&kin painter musta hooked it up by the hole where fuel pump went....

refitted tank..lost about a gallon all over garage floor..

took me about 20minutes with a pair o small grips to re-level the lip...but i also used rtv sealant to be sure this time...
