  • Homebuilt TRE

Who has made their own TRE like the one listed on Steves page? Is it as easy as it looks? I'd like to try it and save a few "georges" too, but i don't wanna if I can possibly f-up my electronics on the tillis. Lookin' for your experiences folks!
    thanx

you are just adding resistance (15 ohm) so there really is no way to screw anything up. if you get the wiring harness plugs (~10 bucks i think), you dont even have to cut your wiring harness

where do i get the correct harnesses? from the dealer? or is there a site (or thread about this) that i've missed? I like the idea of using the correct plug-ins, i'm not a big fan of the "butcher n' hack" job to my bikes. Thanx for the info.....

        me clicky looong time
is where i bought mine complete. i am pretty sure they also sell the parts (including the connectors). you could get most of the needed stuff from radio shack and the connectors from them and you would be all set.

i'm in the process of making steve's TRE. It's not that hard, I did have a difficult time finding some wire to make jumpers on the IC board, then i noticed that i had stock turn signals thati'll never use, so I cut wire from it.

llamacide....I made my own with the 15ohm resistor. If you have any mechanical ability and a soldering iron it's easy. In fact if anyone needs a resistor I think I still have like 5 left(had to buy a pack of 10). All you have to do is use a razor blade and trim the cover off the wires then solder the resistor in. No need to pay $20 or more when you can pay $1

                      TLR4ME,
thats cool, i have a soldering iron and a college degree, let me know what your process is though, like i said in an earlier post, i'd prefer not having to destroy stock wiring configurations.... can i do this by retaining stock wiring? do you have instuctions or plans? Can you post a diagram of what you did?
i'm fickle, i know, but like i said, i don't want to "butcher and hack" the bike....

llama.....send me a e-mail address for you...I'll get you address and send you a resistor and a diagram how to do it....you have to cut wires, but if it's hacked or not depends on you! You can't tell mine was done by looking at it...heat shrink over it all when you're done covers everything.

For those who haven't seen it http://home.iprimus.com.au/stevebm/ssatre.html It doesn't affect the neutral map like the standard TRE's when fitted.
