  • suggestions on suspending bike for swingarm removal

just got back from a good ass whoopin at the drags. ran a 11.12 on a 11.20 dial. beat myself.

came back and decided to go for the swingarm swap... i now realize im not really sure how to support the bike to remove the swingarm. ive hung my bike from the rafters before but this new garage doesnt really make that easy.

the living room would be easy

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Damnit that looked like fun. Make a stand to support straps out of 2X4's
Why yes I am a jackass, thank you.

most shops use 2 big triangles (sideways) with a rod connecting them at the top but sdtlr's idea sounds alot cheaper. although you couldnt remove the swingarm with the rod in place

Couple saw horses and the same size rod works under the subframe. Let it rest against the passenger pegs. That'll hold it up and be free to pull the swingarm

i was thinking the same thing then i realized that i need to remove the swingarm pivot bolt .

i also forgot that exhaust system has to go

think i need to justify a full system or ill be putting the stock one back on after all that work.

ive pulled the sprockets, chain, wheel, hugger, brakes, unbolted the shock and spring linkage, enough for tonite

                thanks for your suggestions!

Hey N2 why didn't you do the swap before going to the strip today? Haven't you had the extended swingarm sitting around for a while?

I have a pair of jackstands if you need them. I also have a big ass beam in my garage to suspend it from if you get desperate for some "support".

I had my TLS sitting on the jackstands (under the side frame spars) with overhead straps for support "just in case" for about 3 weeks with no problems. The weight distribution works out that the bike will sit solidly on the jackstands and front tire.

                          hey TL4LIFE,
                          1-
i ride my bike 5 daze a week to work. i live in long beach and ride 20 miles towards LA with like 7,999,999 other folks. when i drove the same commute in my cage, even at 6 AM it can take me an hour. i knew the swingarm swap would take a little while since im also changing gears, brake lines, blah blah - and now the exhaust has to go
                          2-
i was only 40 points behind the points leader with 220 and wanted to ride what i was used to
                          3-
when you go faster than 11.00 at carlsbad you must wear leather pants and the only suit i have is an eighties faded blue and white thing i wore for carving and i look like a total power ranger with my white helmet

A variation of the sawhorses/bar/subframe idea executed on my CBR900RR on the actual frame with some TIG welded A-Frame supports... It's currently adorning the garage until I get my stock swing-arm boxed-in with some aluminum sheet and powdercoated
