  • No Test Pilot's

I recently purchased a house and decided to sell my 99 TLS with 4,000 miles, ( aka: absolutely mint!) in order to make some home improvements. To make a short story long, the bike was listed in the local paper's and had many people call that were interested. Word got around that it was for sale and my cousin (of all people) who has a bike, decided he was interested in buying it. I have always said no test pilots, but being realated i figured what could happen, Well the worst happened, A handfull of front brake into a corner at 25 mph and the bike was totaled. I just baught it back from the insurance company for $900.00, and figure another $1,000 or so and it will back to almost original cond.

I just figured I would share my stupidity with you all. Kicking myself in the @#S for 3 weeks now.

That sucks. If I dropped someone's bike on the test ride, I would feel so bad I would probably just buy it on the spot.

Did you get the money from the insurance? I'm guessing they gave you at least 3-4k, minus the 900, and only 1000 to fix you might come out ahead actually.

It was a fight with them at first, but I ended up getting 5980. total, and than gave them 900.00 back, should end up ahead of the game, but it still sucks!

It's unfortunate that happened, but I let NO ONE except my mechanic ride my bike.

I'll let anyone ride my bike so long as their bike is nicer (read: worth more) than mine and I have their keys in my hand

That is exactly why no-one has ever ridden my bike but me!! My boss laid down my sv in the parking lot "just sittin on it" while I wasnt arround. I about killed him dead, but he paid for all of the damages. I'll never let that happen again!!!

Yup...as my Uncle always says...a couple of things I don't lend out, my wife and my bike.

(or whatever else someone has asked to "borrow" / "ttry out" etc.)

[wrinkling my nose] Letting someone else ride your motorcycle is kinda like lending someone a pair of your underwear, in a way.

I lend mine out all the time... It's just a machine to me. I like to share my bike riding enjoyment with friends and family.

Someone drops it... oh well... I'll think about what to do when I get to that bridge. It's insured... maybe I'll get a Busa? Maybe I'll get the cool '98 TLR still new in a local showroom? Who knows. It not a precious idol to me... its just a motorcycle.

Okay, maybe underwear was a bad example but I can't think of a better one readily. You'd have to be pretty darn close to me to ride my bike.
