  • Gearbox 97 TLS in a 98 carter

    Hey all,

i have bought a 98 TLS with a damaged gearbox. ( 4th gear is gone)
but i have a 97 TLS carter with a good gearbox.
so i thought that i would just swap that over..

But can i just swap that 1 on 1 or is there something that i have to take in acount?
1 want to place everything from the 97 in to the 98(both shafts plus forks)

split the motor and IF the bearing behind the front sprocket is the SAME as the one from the donor motor it will go in no worries.
if it is different then you need to swap the parts from the shaft. onto the old shaft.
the early motor has a narrower bearing than the later one.
put them alongside each other and check .
They LOOK the same but one is thinner

It never ceases to amaze why people ask for advice then when I give it they either ignore it or argue against it.
But then I don't know all that much about TL's

    wwjd.......what would jimmy do.
