  • 10 HP for $25????

Stumbled across this item on ebay:

    Text of his ad:

"It is brand new never used. Comes with directions to install it. This item is not available in stores yet this is your first chance to get it it will cost about $100 when it is sold in stores. With this mod your bike will shift smoother threw the gears and there will be no top speed limiter it is overided so you can go as fast as your bike can go. This mod also gives you about 10 HP this is a really cheap way to get more hp most mods cost alot more and dont give as much."

Looks like a switchable TRE to me. Never heard of one increasing a TL by 10 hp though...........

Its a new lie to sell you the same old TRE. Good price (not the buy it now) but I wouldn't buy from a liar.

Need to ask what excatly the speed limiter is set to on a TLS and TLR. I also sure as hell hope no one is throwing gears.

I sent this to him and maybe I will get a reply that will explain why he is a dirtbag lier...

I know you are probably not going to reply to this but I have to ask anyway. Is this a Timing Retard Eliminator (TRE) that you are trying to sell. I think it is, and if it is you will not gain ten horsepower from adding it to your bike. Why don't you just tell the truth about what you are selling? You will probably still sell it without all the made up pizazz.

could be that the guy is just ignorant, and not a liar. The ad is written so poorly, that he appears incompetent rather than deceitful.

you mean the TRE doesn't give you an extra 10hp.

Hey, a $25 mod that adds ten hp, makes shifting smoother, disables the rev limiter, and makes your teeth whiter.

Let's set up a group buy!

                        Here's just a quick FYI....
Last year, me and a buddy took 7 bikes to a shop to do some dyno testing with his new Teka from Factory Pro. He also makes TRE's himself too. While we were there, he sold one of his TRE's to a guy on a 'Busa. Just for kicks, we dynoed it with and without the TRE. True, there was no increase in PEAK power, but there was indeed a gain of approximately 10 hp through a "low" spot in the midrange.

Not sure what the result would be on a TL, but if a midrange gain is anything close to that, a TRE seems like it would be well worth it.

Just thought you might like to know that there could be some validity to what this guy is saying (I doubt that he knows it though), but his wording definitely leads you to believe it is peak power he's talking about.

I've got a switchable TRE on my bike, and I can't tell the difference between "on" and "off". I have tried it in a number of situations with back-to-back tests, with no perceptable difference at all. Maybe mine doesn't work. It's Jeff's TRE and appears well made, but maybe it's just me.
