  • New TLS Owner

    Hey Guys,
I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am the proud new owner of a '97 TLS. The bike was in premo condition with less than 2800 miles. The guy has a couple of bikes and a bad back so he just didn't ride the TL much. Good for me, bad for him. The only mod he did to the bike was to add a set of Heli bars which make the bike extremly comfortable in my opinion. The only problem I have with them is that I have a hard time seeing the gauges entirely now. I have a few quick questions to ask. Thanks for a great forum.
    1) what would be your first mod to the bike.

    2) would a double bubble be high enough for me to see the gauges better. (I'm 6'4" so I need some more wind protection too)

3)How do you wheelie this bike. I like doing second gear wheelies, but I can't find the correct RPM on the bike. I used to clutch up my R1 at about 4K RPM and ride forever. I get this bike to come up a little then it just settles back down. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just too weak in stock form. I am 265lbs so I am not a light weight.

Let me know what you guys think. I will post a picture of the bike, tonight. I really love this thing. Twins are so cool

      1) 1st mod...pipes so you can enjoy that soothing v-twin rumble (a couple extra ponies never hurt either)

      2) would help a little, but not having one (or heli bars) i dont know for sure

      3) i have a medical condition (extremely small testicles), so i cant do wheelies , so i cant help on that 1 either

      and...welcome to da planet

first mod, I would either swap out the rear shock and or put a full system on her with an aftermarket air filter with the the ecu mapped out.

The double bubble would deffinately help you as well!

As for wheelies, 180 lbs that I am would crank on it at about 65 mph in 2nd and she would come right up, np. Those heli bars should help bring her up that much faster too!!!!

You might want to get the manual fan switch from Brian (TLRcraz) on the board, they do wonders!!!

Good luck and drop me a line with any questions!

                      Whellie?

1:st gear, around 50km/h - whank the trottle and it will show you new horizons

2:d gear, 80km/h whank the trottle and pull some att the bars and off you go.

                      50km/h ~ 30 mph
                      80 Km/h ~ 50 mph

                      (Dont remember the rpm... )

Oh, forgot, I have a TLR and it differs slightly... But, you get the picture

What's up Pete? I'm a fellow 8th ton(250lbs) club member so don't feel bad. I'm also 6'4", and I gotta know how the hell you lasted longer than a day on that R1. That thing was killin me sittin on it at the dealership! Anyways, get it up to about 6-7k RPMs in first of second, then roll off the throttle and right back on hard. It gets me front wheel up every time, give it a shot....

and oh yeah, WELCOME TO THE PLANET
