  • Baffles

I am contemplating a full yosh exhaust, hopefully I can save the money for them and I hope the cops are on lunch break when i ride. Anyway, for now I have a stock 99' TL1000R that the guy I bought it from pulled the baffles out of. It sounds great, but is this damaging my bike?

Nope, although the lack of backpressure could cause your valves to float at high rpms

      Godtilla,
Help a newbie out here. I looked at a set of Yosh cans the other day and you can look right down through them! In fact you could run them domn a broomstick handle. Completely hollow through the length of the can, how do they create back pressure

They're not completely hollow, there is packing aroound the inside diameter of the shell which absorbs some of the sound waves. A completely gutted out stock can is akin to running just striaght pipes...anybody here run totally gutted stock cans on a twin---will it float valves?? We gutted my buddies gix750 and it did not float em...
For the record kivmax, I dont think it could cause any damage and I would bet that the valves would close because most of our bikes have such low mileage that the valve springs are still quite strong...But be careful because hollow cans tend to sound hollow and tinny, whereas yosh or m4 will sound much deeper and throatier...Almost like comparing a car with glasspacks to a car with flowmasters---just a much more quality of sound

I'd say no you're not damaging your bike.

I ran aftermarket cans for 4 years without a remap without any signs of running lean or any damage, I'm guessing my cans (made by Megacycle exhausts in Melbourne) are exactly the same as D&D aluminium cans. About a 2" straight through perforated internal bore.

Everything I have read on exhaust system design says the old rumours "no exhaust will float/burn your exhaust valves" are completely untrue.
