  • Is the sum of the parts worth more than the whole?

I was thinking about selling the TL and picking up this wrecked SV I've got a line on and just doing track days etc.
I've been looking around and can't get over how cheap I see TL's for sale for.
I was thinking about just parting the thing out and seeing how I do, although that could be a pain in the ass, as well as take a while to sell everything, deal with shipping stuff etc.
Pretty sad that I can't buy a wrecked SV, throw a pipe, shock and bodywork on it for less than I can sell my bike for.

I'd sell it whole, UNLESS you can get it to a friend on some island somewhere. I was going to send a bike to St.Thomas U.S.V.I., but it would take time to send and collect, and I could not wait.

To give you some idea on any vehicle part needs on a small island. My cousin in St.Thomas has me buy his Toyota parts and OVERNIGHT them to St.Thomas. He saves more than 50% doing it that way.

I think it would be better for all of us if you parted it.

Seriously though, unless it's crippled is some costly way I would just sell the whole thing in one go.

Sell the whole thing. If you part it, you might have trouble selling some of it, but the parts you do sell leave you with a half put together bike that will be hard to sell also.

What would you do to the sv? How 'bout some Ohlins, Brembo's, PVM's, and Rene's?

Part it sell it? Why bother?

Did ANYONE here buy the TL thinking that they had resale value?

Puhleaze.. I bought the TL"S" IN SPITE of the fact that it would go low. It's with me for the long haul, and it's exactly what I wanted. I never even had a thought about selling it. Hell, half of us got them CHEAP off a dealership floor BECUASE the didn't sell, and had crappy resale value! (Dealers don't like to pay flooring fees on showroom boatanchors, they want stuff to move!)

If you want something with resale value, look for a Lexus cause bikes depreciate like a biatch!

That said, I understand, but anyone who even looked in the papers for prices before buying the one they are on now and should've known better.

Well I didn't ever plan on selling it, and in fact I'm hoping to keep it and get the SV (just have to figure out the funds)
I bought it wrecked in January of 99, so it was still basically new. I had no idea at the time that resale would be low, but like I said, I had planned on keeping it.
It's just that between being a new dad and a few other things, I don't have much time to ride these days. I used to race and I miss the track a lot more than I do the street.
If I'm only going to get out a few times a year, I'd rather have it be on the track.
I've got too much time and effort into this bike to beat it on the race track.
I still have no idea what I'm going to do, just thinking out loud I guess.

Turn it back to stock (if you can), and sell off all the performance parts that you can. A stock bike will sell faster than a heavily modded one IMHO.

it is stock really, other than the shock, rotors and few small bits.
I just need more money that's the problem
I want the TL and the SV.
I don't know how many of you guys have ridden and SV on the track, but they are so much fun.

If it is basically stock and you are selling it for money to buy something else i would just sell it as is (if you can accept the fact that you'll take a loss) just b/c it's fast and simple. I believe in instant gratification. I have always been told that you make much more money parting one out than selling it outright, but you have to be willing/able to sit on the parts until they sell. Now...if you gots lots a aftermarket goodies i'd be interested in buyin, i'd advise you to part it out

If you are only interested in resale and are going to ride a bike, you need to ride a Harley.

So I will take a bath on my TLS someday. I bought the wife's Mazda MPV minivan used and for cheap
