  • stutter below 3000 rpm??

    Newbie here.... Hi!

So, I'm looking at a TL1000S. I test rode it and it rides great except for below 3K rpm. Below 3K the bike gets all herky jerky (uneven fuel delivery?)

I am told this is something to do with the flapper valve?

How easy is this to fix?

The bike has Yosh pipes and has been remapped a bit by a yosh box. Nothing else that I am aware of has been done to the engine (or airbox)....

    TIA

    welcome to da planet

you definitely came to the right place. first i would be suspect of the map that has been loaded. any way to load the stock map and try it again (would need access to a yosh box)? even with a full system and the stock map, it shouldn't stumble. others here are running that same setup without a problem. i know here have had a stumble at lower rpms and will probably be able to give more info.

in general, the TLs dont like to creep along at lower rpms. the twin is a little confused as to why you aren't using all it's torque. they can feel really jerky if you are coming off of an I-4

bah...newbies seriously need to read the FAQ...its either a bad setting on the TPS, a TRE fixable stumble, or a poor map. Flapper valve problem? unlikely, did you mean PAIR valve? even then the answer would be no, PAIR valve is usually associated with a backfire. I'd put money on the first three in that order. TPS=free, TRE=$20 (or $3.50 at radio shack), FI Map...get's a little more pricey, depending on which route you go.

there, i've answer this question for the 18th time today...

but seriously welcome to the planet

what he said, TPS adjustment first,m then a TRE (timing retard eliminator)

uggh...did you read the FAQ??! we still have an FAQ right?

TPS=throttle posistion sensor, the biggest pain in your ass to set, but the single most important device to have set correctly...this puppy can make the difference from bucking bronco to smooth as glass...

do a search, all your answers will be answered

                  Welcome

Check your TPS, then.. check your TPS again, that is usually the problem.

My TLS loves to get a little choppy below 4k. my TPS is right on, but I know my Mapping is terrible. and my TwoBros pipes are probably not the best on the block (possibly why they are discontinued?)

                  Good Luck..

maybe i spent too much time on I-4 bikes, but i am never below 3k, or 4k for that matter...

That's because on an I4 you won't go anywhere below 3-4 K rpm

                        Stick with the TL

I'll just send you the memo again....you see we now have to put a cover page on the TPS report...
