  • Gas Leak Question

I bought my TL1000S a month or so ago and I have recently noticed a slight smell of gas after the bike has been parked for a while. Today I glanced under the tank (although I haven't lifted the tank yet) and saw and felt some gas under the bottom rim of the tank (on the left side of the bike).

Before I lift the tank to explore this leak, can anyone give me ideas about what to look for? Could it be a faulty seam in the tank? If I remember correctly, this same thing happened with my SV650S when I had it and I never figured out exactly what it was before I sold that bike. This can't be something "normal" can it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Fuel pump gasket.

Get a new one clean the base of the tank, use RTV with the new one, do not over torque the bolts, and do them up in a criss-cross pattern.

    Good luck

(the 97's were recalled for the leak, it may also be the tube that runs from under the cap to the bottom of the tank, but if all the hoses are connected correctly, the gas will drop on the ground just infront of your rear wheel.)

probably the seal for the fuel pump. you can drain the tank and remove the fuel pump. get a new gasket and use some sealer that is sutable to seal against oil or gas. i've heard lots of people go through the same thing.

Suzuki had a Re-call in regards to the fule pump gasket. They replaced it with one that was TWICE as thick and WOULD pat for any damage to the paint on the bike.
