  • Fitting 5.5" wheel at the rear

Has anyone tried fitting a 5.5" wheel on a TLS?
Since I'm thinking about putting a 170 at the rear.

    Comments anyone?

    I have to ask why a 170?

Try a search I think this came up the other day, might have been GSXR600 5.5" rim was good to go.

Several people have commented to me that a 170 would be the idea tire size for the TLs given the wheel base.

(Quicker turn in and more stable)

I have also read that same comment in a few magazine articles.

Personally I don't have a strong opinion I'm just curious what other people think or have tried.

A 97-2000 GSXR 600 wheel (5.5) will bolt up fine if you've got your heart set on a 170.
I personally don't think you'll gain anything by doing this (not to mention you're choice of tire will be more limited with the 170)

NO FRIGGIN WAY... I have a M-1 180 and it kicks out all the time in the twisties... There will hardly be a contact patch on a 170... If I stay with M-1's I'm going to do a 190. It looks to be the same as a D207 180. But a 170?Not me...

Don't all those adjustments go hand in hand. Not sure what the benefit of the 170 would be but with all that other gear (damper and shocks) how could you outride the 180's or 190's

good point, still just curious if anyone else has experimented with changing the rear wheel set-up this much.

you can't say am M-1 180 is too skinny, becuase sv650's run 160's and hell my hawk runs 170's on the track. 170 isn't hard to find in race rubber either. i say go for it and report to how much faster your knee is on the deck

170 maybe too skinny cause the TL is pumping a good 110+ rwhp while the SV is going @ 60-70hp. big difference in power and you're going to slid all over the place.

FWIW, KBOlsen mentioned that the new gen 600/750 wheels fit fine too though you'll need the spacers, sprocket carrier, etc, etc
