i am tryig to bring my header pipes through the hole in the swing arm on my 2001tl1000r and make my pipe go under the seat like the new r1's any ideas as far as how to go about it. i was thinking about makeing the right header pipe coming from the front out of 1 1/2 stainless steel pipe and go up through the hole and then use 2 inch stainless to come directly off the rear header and join the front header and up under the swing arm.but then the pipes would be uneven, but i thoguth the different sizes would make up for that. what are some thoughts.

i think the only succesful way to get an undertail exhaust on the TLR is to do a full custom job and bring both pipes up from the right side and over the swingarm like on a ducati..........at least thats the only way i've ever seen .....good luck to ya.

it will take some math to figure out flow rate/pipe length/etc.

most companies (and even race teams) compensate by just making one header (or mid pipe) loop around so it is the same length. either way, you eould have to go to a single pipe to get it to fit through the swingarm.

              good thinking

good thinking but how do i only bring one pipe through the hole when the rear header pipe goes down through it .what if i bring the rear ehaust up straight up from the engine and loop it under the subframe and make a catcher for the front pipe that i bring in through the hole in the sub frame. sound good. i really am just going for looks but i don't ant to lose power.

                i think i got it

i just got a hint from handjuice. he showed me the headers off a ducati well if you look they are uneven as far as length.now look how they flow both towards the triangle so to speak shaped part and flow out now sense the front looks longer but they meet in the same place it has to make up for the rear by sucking more from the pipe kind of like a sifin i think but what if i bring the rear header pipe from the engine straight back and bring the front header pipe through the hole in the swing arm.and put in the same triangle shape air flow system under the subframe. and have that lead to a catcher and to the pipes.

That is essentially what the new 999 has. They have "straight piped" all the way back and have the "collecter" under the tail. The 749 is kinda like that too but it is a 2-into-1.
