  • sick of my TLS

my 97 TLS has given me problems since i have owned it. i took the bike in a year ago to get that low rpm surging taken out. they took the pcII off and adjusted everything to factory specs and the bike ran perfect for a year. now the surging at low rpm is back and the bike will not stay started, i have to rev the engine at a light or stop sign to keep it running. i changed the plugs and she ran fine for about a week. mods i have to the bike, i have a full 2 into 1 two brothers sys., k&n filter. i took the pcII off they said that was a problem with the bike running crappy, but i still have it. why is this surging back and why is the bike not idling? what do you guys think out there? thanks for any help

have you had the TPS set...

if not do a search on TPS...there are instructions

also maybe a faulty PCII or an inappropriate map ??

there are plenty other things also that i can think of...for example 12 months later starts doin the same stumbling...maybe filter wants cleaniong after 12 months,,
maybe you have had a bad batch of fuel,

just a few things to get you started ...

i am sure the oither guys will be along soon with lots of other ideas...probably better than mine

    good luck

Mistake number one, believing dealers know shit about shit. I can almost guarantee you it is your TPS.

Have to agree here. The finest of fine adjustment on the TPS can mean the difference of real crap or real good!
I know it can be frustrating but don't give up the TL is a great bike when running right

You're in the Uk.. pickup the morgan carbtune 2.. It's the BEST.. No merury or anything else to spill..

I agree with the guys.. TPS, then set your idle. I'm starting to have the same problem, so a TPS adjustment is in my future too.

Forgot to add, if you've done quite a few miles give you're K&N a clean. I washed mine just 2 days ago and you'll be amazed at the difference it can make.

i have just been watching the video a little more...do you have to do a carb sync ??..after setting tps....

mine just ticks over between 11000-12000-11000-12000...

so i figured the tpa was due for adjustment..that is why i dloaded the vid..last night...

I got this one ya all, it's mainly a TLS problem. Well the TLS' have major problems with shooting oil into the airbox, the oil well run out around the boot on the fron throttle body and in turn gum up all of the throttle linkages and the idle adjustment linkage. Take off the airbox and clean all of the throttle linkages really well, oil al the cable connections and lines. Pay special attention to the cable for the idle adjustment, that is probably the main problem. Set the TPS and clean the air filter, throw it all back together and go rip it a new one for making you do all that work
