  • Met a Motor Co engineer today

So, this afternoon I see a couple of Buells pass on the street, then a minute later a couple of guys in leather walk from the same direction. I strike up a conversation about their bikes, their route, etc. The usual m/c conversation ensued... where to buy lunch, etc.

Then, I said I wanted to get some Buell parts to make my '88 GSXR into a streetfighter. One asked if I had a card, and said he could send me some info. I didn't have one, so he gave me his card ... identifying himself as a senior engineer for motor development at Harley Davidson.

He said he'd send me some stuff. I can't wait to see what he means!

btw, their bikes were all wired up for data acquisition, with sensors all over the place.

You know, I've said my share of H/D jokes. I figured this thread would bring them out.

But, Buells are cool. If you deny it, you're just being partisan.

I love my 'Zooks, and I've owned a bunch, but the new Firebolt really trips my trigger.

He's going to send you a list of HD dealers so you can go buy one and you wont have to Streetfighter your Gixxer.

Maybe you could get the inside scoop on any upcoming improvements, such as fitting the firebolt with a watercooled 1000cc plant making about 120hp at the wheel and a 6speed box

                  a buell, laugh

Come on racer, looks aren't everything. If thats the case, I would be dating supermodels. If there is nothing inside, you get rid of her. Much like a buell. I've never heard anything good about them. Low on power, breakdown issues. Everyone could be wrong though.
                  I know nothing about bikes.

I live 15 min from the Buell factory and I can hear them blowing up all day long . Seriously though, I don't have anything against Buell really, I just don't trust them. One of my friends works for Buell and he thinks they're the bomb. I imagine that is written into his contract though . I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money on something with so many issues (major recalls on all model years is an issue) when I could spend less money on something that handles better, runs better, is faster and is imho cooler than a Buell. It all comes down to personal preference but I have never heard a good reason to buy Buell.
2003 Blue and White TL1000R (The faster colors) Yoshimura Ti Cans, TRE, Custom Homemade Fender Eliminator, Hammerit Carbon Look Intake Covers, PC II, Fan Switch Mod. Yellow Box, Nissin Brake Caliper and Goodridge SS Brake Lines.

They say that only the good die young, so I plan on living forevever.

Too heavy, handles funny, shakes bolts loose all the time, weird looking nose - that's what I don't like about those Bue....errr, wait, that's what they keep saying about my TL. I'd think that as a group that's found that what "they" say doesn't' mean much, we might just figure out why Harley guys tend to be a loyal bunch.

I personally love the Buell. I have friends that ride 'em hard and no issues. If there are issues then they are cheap to fix.

I'd buy one if I didn't have this obsession of having a TL.
If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

I used to root for buell & the old racer he had...

I think the bikes are interesting, but have never riden one so I can't offer an opinion. Some things are very innovative for sure, but the look doesn't really do it for me. I guess I really did lust after my TLS for too long

I don't like the fact they are pretty much owned by Harley (I don't think they have the whole thing, but most of it for sure.) and I just can't buy anything from that company. It has nothing to do with the product, it's because of them suing everyone and anyone. "We're trademarking the sound of a V-twin! No one else can make one!".... "We're suing every little Harley aftermaket shop we can find to put them out of business" "It doens't matter that these same guys kept the bikes ALIVE for the 30 years we sucked..."

They can pound sand up their collective boardroom ass until they die.
