  • I killed my battery (again)

    Hey Guys,

Good to finally be back form Las Vegas, Besides having my ass handed to me by the blackjack dealer I came home to find my battery dead, again. My own stupid fault. When I turned the lock on the ignition i went to far and, you guessed it, put it on acc. Anyways, I did this before and bought a second battery. Didnt want to waste riding time. Well, couldnt find my battery tender for a while. Finally found it and battery is over 80% complete. Now for the question. Since i am charging a dead battery with my batterty tender does anyone know how well it will keep its charge or should i be worried all the time if it will fire up if i am out somewhere. I think the tender conditions it too so it will hold up but i am not positive. Anyone else as stupid as me and have the same situation.

    Thanks

    Bill

P.S. Looking through the posts, glad to see no bad ones.

The battery is probably RS. They don't like a deep discharge like that, an even worse when they are left like that for any period of time.

I'm surprised your battery tender has been able to do anything with it at all. Mine wont even start or attempt to charge if the battery voltage is less than approx 10volts.

You might be lucky, but I doubt if it will be of any use, or be able to be trusted.

I'm not sure how long you were in L.V. but , when I left the key in the ACC position at work , it killed the battery completely after just 9 or 10 hours. I wouldn't trust the old one. Start off with a new one and free yourself from any worries.

Your Battery Tender will take forever to get it back to full charge. I would suggest a 1-2 amp charge. But if you don't mind waiting it should get you there. Batteries actually prefer to be charged with small amounts of juice. As far as your Battery being completely dead, who can say? I have fully discharged batteries and recharged and used them for 2+ years. I have also had them die somewhat premature after such an incident. If you are not planning any "in the middle of nowhere" trips just ride and hope you lucked out.

I'm also surprised that the battery tender actually started charging it. Usually when I charge a dead battery I have to temporarily jump it to a good battery to trick the tender into charging the dead one. Like Steve said the tender won't charge if it doesn't see enough voltage.

It probably goes without saying, but buy nothing other than a Yuasa battery. Everything else is shit.

I was wondering if any other batteries held up any better with all the electronic add-ons to my bike...

Has anyone tried westco, or any others

Well I just bought a new battery yesterday, Yuasa 12BS runs about 60 bux, but from what I am told it's the best battery to get.

Well, update. Got both my batteries charged(the original and the spare) using the battery tender. So far sooooo good. Will see if she fires up in 2 days. Fired up yesterday with no problem. The real test will be seeing if it drains fast, especially since i have the alarm set.
