i want to thank everyone for the help i have received over the past couple of months while i was shopping around. as stated when i first joined, i have been in the process of trying to find a sport-twin to take the place of my last bike. as some of you know, i have looked at quite a few bikes since i joined the board, and again, thanks to those that took the time to display their bike for me. all the bikes i looked at (well, most) were really nice in their own way, and i could see myself owning any one of them.
as you may also recall, my concern wasnt so much the bottom line ($), but the deal itself. i had focused most of my search on bikes ranging from $4000-$4500 and planned on tidying-up anything that needed to be sorted out. this route was exhaustive as well as stressful. when checking out a bike that you know needs work you always have to face the seller and almost walk on eggshells (self imposed, not their fault) in order not to seem as if you are trying to take them to the cleaners. i play fair by nature, and i have been researching in detail for the entire season what the going price for virtually any production bike. this includes taking into consideration geographic location, mainly thanks to this and other boards. after a lot of attempts to find a deal that i felt good about in this range, i started to bring it up a couple notches. i looked at what i could get in that range, next i determined (roughly) what it would cost for me to bring it to the level i would want the bike in and the total came to just over $6000. which is a good deal considering when purchasing a TL you are purchasing one of the most unique bikes around today, also a good handful of performance to keep most mortals satisfied (as long as the funds for upgrades doesnt dry out).
so what did i get?...
i found a beauty. 2000 year, aftermarket pipes, extra set of new tires, rear stand, 4100 miles, not a scratch on her, a box of random spares, red/black/silver rc51 that i just couldnt pass up. i am sure a few of you will appreciate the purchase, if not most of you.
i would like to say that i have thoroughly enjoyed hangin with you guys, and i hope the fact that i went Red wont bother anyone if i continue to hang and "contribute" if you want to call it that.
thanks again all.
