  • Tire psi ?

Making a run ta jellystone this weekend on a hashed pilot sport, what tire pressure would you guys suggest for maximum life. I was thinkin of 40-42 cold. Whattaya think?

is the center hashed? that psi will certainly burn the center

2000 tillis plus stuff with some polished stuff and some carbon fiber stuff and a little bit of tlr stuff and some gsxr stuff

Where's jellystone? Is that where Yogi lives? be sure to say hello for me.

I run on average 34R 32F, sometimes visa versa, but the majority is 34/32

I would recommend getting to a shop and replacing that tire BEFORE you ride.

hashed = bad = possible crash

No air presure amount is going to turn a crap tire into a good one. It's like trying to shine a sneaker.. can't be done.

Tire has a real even wear pattern, center isn't flattened. I always thought a little higher pressure kept the tire cooler creating less wear
Run 34 in her usually, a pound or two down if I'm just hitting the twisties. Trying ta keep wear down so I can hit the infamous 77 miles of curvy roads on the way home!

For a long strait ride (with any amount of luggage) I would run high 30's (38 or so) on up to 40 ish.

                  1/2 a tire? That's not that bad.

Tire pressure & heat are directly related to riding style and your weight. So to recommend a PSI youd want to take those factors into account.

A BIG guy at Willow used to run 46 PSI nitogen in the rear of his gsxr1000 because anything less would let his tire turn to goo... If I ran over 40, the tire wouldn't get hot enough and I'd slide around for a few laps...

Take it for what it's worth but I run 30-32 all the time. Most guys wiht R1's run like you guys 34-38 and I get twice the milage out of a tire as they do. Granted with the lower pressure you will get higher temps but you will be riding on a wider patch. It's just a theory I think the higher temps allow the rubber to strech instead of scrubbing off allowing for longer wear. but who knows, I could just be a lucky bastard.

                      nitrogen

I'm guessing you could run higher pressures with nitrogen because the pressure wont change with the heat build up like air does.

I ran 32 on a pair of 207's and ate em up fast! Front stepped real bad, edges on the rear were toast as well (180). Been running 34 in the pilots and they are wearing pretty good. I may be optimistic when I say I got 1/2 tread left as well.
I'm about 170 pounds with leathers, got about 7 pounds of gear strapped ta the passenger seat.
Worst case I gotta get a new rear in missoula.

I usually run 30F and 29R on my Pirelli SuperCorsas, SC1 F and SC2 R, or RS1 and RS2 slicks. Of course, I'm not all that concerned about tire life....
I understand the thought that more pressure would keep the tire cooler, but think about this: If you overinflate your car tires, the centers wear out faster, if they are underinflated, the edges wear faster. So with that in mind, I'd say tire wear due to temp isn't your biggest enemy in this case. Probably a good idea to replace it, if possible. You probably won't be sorry you did.
                          Of course, that's just my $.01 1/4...

i run 30f, 31-31r depending on temp on my race bike.

40f/r on my street bike. i don't care about grip, more concerned w/ mileage

I have always run 36/36 and never thought of lowering the presure at all . Just put a new Pirrelli Diablo on the back , I got 5000kms ( 3000 miles ? ) from the Dragon GTS and it was still round with no flattening , just run out of tread depth. Still have a SuperCorsa on front .I know you should match Tyres but I like lots of grip on the front.
The Diablo so far is great , Flipping from side to side is alot less effort and I am about 10kmh faster without trying . Even had the front pushing , never had that happen with the old tyre.
I will let you all know in a few of months hows this works out
