  • winterizing and upgrade Ideas

Due to some personal reasons, i have to winterize early and put the bike out of commission for the season. Besides fuel stabilizer and disconnecting the battery, is there anything else i should do?

Prior to becoming a member on this board, I only had one upgrade in mind which was the obligatory exhaust. However, since then, I have numerous upgrades that I want to do. Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to supply my large appetite I figure, though, that I can afford to do some things over the stretch of winters long, cold months....Soooo, what upgrades would you guys suggest given a $600-$700 price cap? I already have my six-pot caliper setup with SS lines coming in...lemme know

Wash and wax her really good, it will be the last time for a while

Take tha battery inside and put it on a tender. Also plug the openings on your pipes with a couple rags. I heard a guy shot mice out of his after a long winters storage

6-7 for eye candy, or go fast goodies? I'd say rear suspension (Bitubo is only 450) or get your forks worked 500 or so.

If you don't have stands use some of that money to get front and rear stands so you can get those tires off the ground. Put the stabilizer in and run it around for 15-20 miles to ensure it's all though th lines, park it then top it off again. A good wash and wax for the body and a liberal coat of chain wax. I've never had trouble with the battery but a tender wouldn't hurt. Then cover her with an old sheet or specialized cover.

A good cheep up grade would be a 520 kit and drop a tooth up front, or just drop a tooth up front. Get a good set of Gel grips.. A $7 set of Gel pro-grips was one of my favorite things I did to mine.

I believe your next step is going to be the full system exhaust. I haven't even gotten close to the full handling capabilities of the TLR so getting a rear shock would be pointless until i master the rotary. Your only problem now is deciding on m4 or yosh.
          I know nothing about bikes.

            cheap power

if you are loking for cheap or no cost power here are a few i am going to be doing this winter
1-remove pair valves and all associated tubing including the vcsv, vtv and VD (vacuum control solenoid valve, vacuum transmitting valve, vacuum damper) make sure you plug the 2 lines that go to the throttle bodies and lines that go to cylinder exhaust.
2-remove the scissors gears and auto-decompression system.
3-do the airbox mod for your bike, makes a huge difference for breathing and low end power.
These are a few of the things I am doing to help gain some power and help her wind up a little faster.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions....I am currently thinking of getting:

                TRE - Jeffs(?)

Undertail - any good suggestions...I am pretty sure that i want to keep the stock tail light...I also heard that I shouldnt get fiberglass due to cracking...any truth to this?

As far as the full exhaust, I dont think i will be parting with my Leo Vinces for a while, and I already have the race stands.

Any other suggestions for performance mods?

Also, how much does it cost to get a custom map done for your PCII??

                thanks

Most places are around $250 to get a custom map. Custom map would be a waste of money till you finished all your other mods. I've seen them make anywhere from 2-6 HP difference over the provided maps from PC. But do not have a good tire on the back cuase you will have a nice flat spot after it is over with.

For winterizing, Put it up on stands, change the oil (keep old filter on) an extra coat of chain lube (I used to put axle grease over my chain) I also put a little WD40 on my rotors to prevent any rust or oxidation.

As for Mods, Get the block off plates, remove the pair completley, Power Commander, and exhaust. Keep an eye out here and you will probably find a full system for sale as soon as those triovals come out. Then that would free up enough for a set of RT gold valves. TLR has .85 springs so unless you weigh in well over 200lbs. they will work fine for the street with better valving, or maybe a better steering stabilizer.

your bike is going to sound and idle like crap. .. pair valve might reduce your backfiring but you wont get any power outta it,

A cheap why to get your tires off the ground to prevent flat spots is put them on syrafoam in stead of the hard ground

                            That's hilarious!

Don't forget to put some fresh oil in her before you put her up. You don't want all of those nasty contaminants floating around in your engine all winter. Just be sure to change it again before your first spring ride.
