  • BMC or K&N Filter?

I'm in the market for either a BMC or K&N filter. Just wondering what you guys think is the better filter. I was quoted $56 by a local shop for the K&N or $60 online for the BMC.

I used to run BMC pod filters on my gix11, they seemed ok..
I do remember hearing somewhere that the BMC was better than the K&N but not totally sure...I dont think you would have trouble with either, They both have a very good name.

I am running a K&N...........the butt dyno didnt notice anything. I had good luck with K&N before but the TL-R filter looked weak. No problems so far. The stock filter looks like the better unit.

I'd buy a BMC the next time.

i have a bmc, its nice and works well.
i've used k&n in the past (not on the tlr) and theyre good too.
the diffrence is neglegable, so go with whichever is a better deal or the one that will make you happiest for whatever intangible reason.

Cut out the stock paper filter out of the original. Buy uni filters bulk foam (same used in the bmc) and glue it down. Total cost 15.
              I know nothing about bikes.

Wow I never thought of doing that. Are there many guys doing this? Where do you get the bulk Uni stuff from?

BMC and K&N standards don't give any pony gains, race do but don't filter nearly as good. BMC is suppose ta be better quality, that's what I got from some motor builders.

Nevermind I called to conferm the price of $56 from my local dealer and they now say it's $84. I'm sure the $56 was their cost and they screwed up yesterday. I was leaning towards the BMC anyway so I'll just order online.

I am with horkn on this, they look like the same element like the K&N stuff with a lighter colored oil on it.

Jiff, the $56.00 quote was probably for a TLS, not an "R" like yours. Lemme know if you need a K&N for your bike, I have them in stock.

Beaudry. It's actually not the first time thay have screwed up and quoted me their cost instead of the retail price. Last time they did it on some oil filters.

Edwin - What price are we talking on the K & N? I think I'm going to go with the BMC since it costs less though.
