  • Fast idle

    Hey guys,

I was out for a 'spirited' ride last night for about an hour, and near the end we pulled up to a red light. The idle seemed to want to stay at 2,500 rpm. The fast idle (left handlebar) was off, and I hadn't touched the screw idle by your left knee. After another little stint, and then about 10 minutes of riding leisurely...it was fine. It only happened the one time... ?

Could this have anything due to the TPS? I have yet to check mine...but plan on it soon!

I guess you could be right...but it was a one-time deal! It didn't do it before (even days) or after... ?

Maybe I should have turned it off, and restarted it to see if that did anything.

it only takes 30 seconds to check if its out of whack. just warm up the bike, jump out the dealer mode connector and start the engine. look at the gauge reading (where the temp gauge is) and you will see "C00". right next to it on the left are 3 bars stacked on top of each other. you should only see 1 bar in the middle like this "-". not "_" or up high at idle. use the choke to raise rpm until you see the top bar showing. it should go to the top at about 1400 rpm. if you don't then it needs adjusting.

Thanks dude...pic on the 'dealer mode connector'?

I know it is in the tail section, but I saw a couple of one-ended connectors last I looked.

Little black box with a lid

Just put either end of a paper clip on both contacts and you're set

Thanks guys...I am planning on checking it when I get home from work today...will post results.

The forcast for the next week or so doesn't look good...have a look (in Celcius). With a trend like that, it won't be long until she has to go to sleep for the winter!

Make sure not to let the paper clip ground out to the frame. I have a jumper wire to prevent this happening by accident.

Ground is OK, one of the wires your bridging is a ground, and according to the wiring diagram, it's the same ground as the tail lights and indicators.
