  • Headlight bulb?

Hey all...Was trying to clean out the lens of the projector lamp on my bike. Got 95% of it clean, but in the process, I dropped the bulb and the filament came loose inside the bulb.

Who knows what the replacement for it is and can I get it somewhere other than the dealership? This is the low-beam side on a projector lamp assembly. I can only imagine what a dealership would charge for it. Thanks in advance....

I've got a Euro-spec (OEM) projector unit in my TLR.....it uses H1 bulbs.
If yours is the same, then the H1's should do the job......and not too expensive either!

                G'day Tony
This may not be the best news for you, but there is about 13,000km of Pacific Ocean between you and the source of my projector beam, who is a Sydney bike wrecker who sources many bikes to dismantle from Japan (those Japanese riders must wreck more of their machines than we Aussies do!)
Having said that, I'd be happy to enquire if he's got one at the moment. I recall him saying about AUD200 for the unit (I didn't get mine...the previous owner did) so that may work out to about USD140~ish, plus P&H? Would that be viable for you?
Perhaps let me know via PM so we don't clog up this thread?
                Regards
                Graham (ratTLeR)

You know, the way they design bikes these days, with every model having just about different-bloody-everything from from the next model, its no wonder the dealer's can afford to hold only minimum spare parts inventory.

The previous owner had fitted this unit after a bingle, but really made a botch of the wiring, because the Aussie spec models have the dual H4's (like the USA), so (to cut a verrrrry long story short) on my first night ride I selected high beam (on a freeway, no lighting, and doing about 120kph) and the lights went off!!!!

Some trial and error before I got to the H1's....didn't even try H7's, but they may work as well

hmmm, very interesting. after you went back to low beams at 120kph, did they go on? or no lights at all?

Nah, the goose actually had the high beam (non-projector) light running as low-beam (G-O-O-S-E!) and with the H4 bulb system (which was the way my bike was still wired!) when you select high beam, the low beam circuit turns off (maybe too much heat or too much power drain to have both filaments burning?) so my (non-existent) high beam circuit didn't do anything, and simultaneously, the low/high(?) went off....hence: total darlkness! (G-O-O-S-E!) So, I rapidly selected low beam again and my high(?)low came back on!

                      Confused? Sheeeit, I am!!!!!!!!

Anway, eventually got correct circuits organised, had to do a simple wire-bridging in the loom carrying the headlight wires, and viola!

(I'm just going to take an aspirin after that description!!)

Yup, that's what I've got. Just found out from the previous owner (slapper) that H1's are the correct replacement. Off the the parts store tomorrow. Thanks for the replies all.

Yeah, you're right! A beer would be a better idea!
Its Friday afternoon here.....timing is just right!
Goose is a very, simple and lightweight insult....probably good for use in a public forum, but my thoughts about the previous owner go much, much deeper! (another story, but I'll spare you!)

PS: have a looke at Screwloose's thread 'TLS Continental Headlamp' a little way back in the 'looking to sell' forum for some other thoughts on these Euro lights.
