  • Dealership lost my key...

I brought the TLS into the shop for an estimate (it got backed over for those who didn't catch it in the other thread), and I went to go pick it up (rather than have it sit in thier shop getting banged up and rained on).

I paid for the estimate and told them i would be back when the insurance check came in. Ths took about an hour, and I was like WTF? So I start asking what the holdup is.... "Uh.. Uh.. we lost your key... but we're looking for it, we'll find it..."

So after another hour of searching toolboxes, every other bike they have, and the entire parking lot they still can't find it. I went home got my spare and made it home..

4 days later now they still can't find it.. (I've called everyday..) And they said they would pay to have a "spare" made for me..

Should I let this go, or should I be demanding that these twits buy me a new lock set? I don't like the idea of some guy running around with my key, especially if he works there and has my address.....

    Dumbasses!

I would ask for a new key, column, and tank cap.

Thats' what I'm thinking, but I don't know if I'm out of line.. Am I just worrying too much? It seems to me that there are a butt load of thefts lately, and I don't wanna be one of them.

They are NOT doing the work though.. If they loose my key what else are they going to "forget" to put on or tighten.. No thanks.. I'll get the check and do it myself.

P.S. 1000 posts for me! (At least I have that workin' for me! )

i say, if they value your biz, they should replace your whole setup. You went in there with the security knowing you were the only one with keys to the bike, and now you've lost that...its their responsibility to instill that again, if that want to do business with you again. my $.02

.and they would have the old lockset, so not a total loss for them...if they are straight up people they should not have a problem with that...

i doubt they'll replace your lockset but it's worth a shot cause they did lose your key and it's in the hands of a potential thief.

Possibly stolen by a member of the public?

Ask for a new lock set and you don't have to accuse the dealer of any wrong doing or potential wrong doing. Some other potential thief has the key not necessarily someone from the dealer, so it maybe easier on them if you're not accusing someone working there of being a potential thief, or giving the message that it's the dealership you don't trust.

I think Steves idea is the way to go!

Be nice, might be that someone there stole it, and maybe not. Anyway it usually pays in the long run to be nice to the place that do the maintanance on your bike(s)...

But as SDTLR says, get everything switched. It´s so easy to steal a bike, and even easier if you have the key...

                          Good luck, btw.

I woud push to have everything replaced. Its kinda like paying a shop to put a high dollar stereo system in your car and then everything comes up missing . I would bet any amount of money they have your address also I hate dropping my bike off at the stealers I feel like I'm dropping one of my little kids off and the babysitter is holding a 40oz in one hand and a crack pipe in the other

i agree tell them they can either give you an entire new lockset, or give you the keys to the leftover tlr that i'm sure they have. i know it would never happen (the tlr part0 but it will make them think.....
