Could I sport tour a TLR?
I've seen some used and new ones at some great prices. I've sat on one in the dealership and it felt plenty roomy for a sportbike. I currently ride a SV650 but want mo powa for my fatass and softluggage. The SV is pretty comfy but I need more pull for the long highway stints between destinations. Has anyone done long rides on the TLR? Thanks for the help.Tags: None

welcome
The confort factor depends on your size. The taller/bigger people will find it more confortable. I find it very confortable. Long highway stints and TLR/S go together but with alot of stops for refueling. These things are gas hungry.

I think the gas guzzling record is like 50 miles (SDTLR?) before the light came on. Losta WOT. The TLR gas mileage is very suseptible on how you are with the throttle.

I've put some decent milage on mine over the last year doing some decent trips.
Milage, I get 120 befor the light kicks on. That's with a 4+ gear @ roughly 85-90 MPH.
Comfort, is pretty good for bike with an aggressive seating position. when you stop for fuel a good leg strech usually takes the kinks out and I'm ready for another 120 miles. Although, I do get a bit antsy by 100 miles or so. Mostly from sitting in the same position for so long. My neck gets a bit weary too but I have a raised subframe and wear a drag helmet so my head my be arched more then usuall.
With some bags, a set of headphones and a camel hump. I'd make a run to Vegas on her. And belive me, I've thought about it

This question is completely relative to how much you like to ride...
I am 6'6" 220 pounds and have "sport toured" CBR's, ZX's, FZR's, Katana's, my last TLs and now an '01 TLr. I have taken 1500+ mile trips on the first three loaded up with bags, and granted some were more comfortable than others, but let's face it you want soft, smooth trips, with a place to put your drink, take the car
If you want an experience that is hard to match by anything other that a motorcyle what ever kind, make, or model, GO RIDE..

I take my TLS on 300mile trip often and its not much different than the TLR. You can get a Corbin seat and Heli bars that would make it much more comfy.War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

yeah you could sport tour a tlr, no problem. possibly the most comfy of the 'repli-racers'.
my gas light usually comes on about 100 miles, but you could ride an extra 30-40 after that, unless youre really hammering it.
i rode 160+ (highway) miles on 1 tank once, from laconia, nh to cape cod. thats with lots of performance mods, but stock gearing.
the frames on these things heat up in stop & go traffic, but its livable imo.
~Alien_Tank

Welcome!
I took my Tiller to Brno this summer to see the MotoGP.
+700 miles on a day, and the same on the way back, +700 mls, one day.
It works OK, stock seat, stock clip-ons, no tankbag (luggage on the back) of the bike).
I got around 130 miles out of a tank, with a possible 30 or 40 more miles in it.
This at a cruising speed of 110-120 mphIf You're Not Living On The Edge, You're Taking Up Too Much Space
