    well at 23K on my '01 TLS, my chain has finally had it. I had read about some people's adventure in removing the counter shaft sprocket and fully expected to have some of the same issues. A few months back, I was helping a buddy with his Speed Triple, and we finally resorted to buying an impact wrench after everything else failed on his.

    on Sat morming, I decided it was time to attack mine. First, I had to take off the plastic cover of course. Next was that little hex bolt on the outiside of the sprocket and it even put up a little fight , but came off pretty easy. After that, I get out my largest rachet bar which happens to be my torque wrench. I set it up to the maxium torque and get my self mentally prepared to put my 230lbs to use for once. So 1, 2, 3, turn - bam, I'm laying on the ground, the thing turned so easily.

    Okay, so now I'm sitting there going, man, how long has this thing been loose. How loose is it? Well, after tightening it back up, it wasn't as loose as I initially thought after I fell, but, it sure wasn't what it should have been?

    Anyone else find their counter shaft sprocket loose? May be something you want to check as I never did. Whats the recommened torque on it?

    I am still waiting for my new sprockets to come in. Hopefully today or Tuesday.

    since you used a tq wrench, what was it set at?

      Well, I don't know since I had the Torque wrench at a really high setting, but it couldn't have been more then a few ft-lbs. I probably could have broken it loose with a little bitty rachet with out much effort.

          83 sounds like a bit to much since the thing is splined you only need enough tq to hold it on. 50 ft/lbs should be more than enough and with the locking washer you should have no problem.

            I just checked and mine calls for 61 ft lbs or 85 NM.

              You know you're not meant to use a torque wrench for loosening really tight nuts... gets 'em inaccurate real quick...

              I bought one of these 24 inch flex bars for about $30.. use it for everything. Tightening wheel nuts on the cage, personal security device.. even used it and the starter motor to bust the bolt off the harmonic balancer.

                yeah not the smartest thing in the world I have one of those on my shopping list!

                    Is there any kind of lock washer or cotter pin on that thing. does it list any other values? could it be a mistake and be 83 Nm?

                      I replaced mine at 22k and it was tight they used a bunch of loctite from the factory

                        we replaced the front sprocket on my roomies 02 busa. 14k on her, and it wasnt too tough. but i held the bike as he cranked on it just incase. there was enough loctite on it.

                          if so, they made the same typo in the tls manual

                          83 sounds right considering the thread pitch and the fdact that both the threads and nut are steel

                          2000 tillis plus stuff with some polished stuff and some carbon fiber stuff and a little bit of tlr stuff and some gsxr stuff
