  • I am starting to hate this bike

    One problem after another.

I finally get it running after a month of sitting at home after the accident. It runs fine for two weeks. Then this morning she starts acting up.

I was cruising on the highway on my way to school. I then noticed that the engine was begginging to make a ticking noise (sounded like from the front cylinder). The noise got louder and louder. The power began to fade for about a second. Then as I slowed for traffic the thing just died. I immediately pull over on the shoulder and visually inspect it. Oil level seems right. I have gas. Coolant is fine. I then get on the cell phone to call my girlfriend to come and get me. I step away from the bike because the passing cars are too loud. Then a big rig passes by pretty fast. I guess the wind gust from the rig was pretty stong and it blew the bike over (so much for my BRAND NEW Motostyle sliders. at least they worked ) So i pick it up and walk it to an exit i just passed about a half a mile back. I bring it to the gas station there and take out the took kit. I start to work on the allen bolts holding the gas tank down so that i may visually inspect the airbox. Apparently i overtightened the bolts the last time. Needless to say I rounded them off . I needed to get to class for a midterm that I am not able to postpone. So I leave the bike at the gas station and have my girl bring me to school.

I am at home now waiting for my buddy to bring his truck so we can go get it. i have two papers to write for tomorrow and i dont have time for this $#!+.

A guy I know was having a similar sputter and die problem, it was a TLS however and one of his ram air tubes wasn't fully attached so the air box was making it act f#$%ed up...

I have concluded that the problem is internal . From the sounds of it the problem may lie within. I am guessing the timing chain is slapping around (the TLR does have a timing chain right? just checking) Whatever it is it sounds BAD. This problem could not have come at a worse time. This time of the semester midterms and papers are due left and right. Just got a new job so cant take off from work. Thus no time to work on it. Maybe its a sign. First the accident and then this. Maybe its time for the Tiller to hibernate (sp?) for the winter. What sucks is that my TLRR kit is on the way and i was wanting to flaunt it around .

Sounds like the Cam sproket issue im having with my bike. What year is your bike? If its 2000 or below your cam sprokets are not slotted and some wear may have taken place and you will need new cams.

Oh yea and bend over cause its gonna cost a grip!
