Modfied tlr vs. rc51
In Sportrider a couple of months ago they did their twins comparison. If I'm not mistaken it was an rc51, 999 and rsv. They didn't want to include the tlr because in their opinion it would be like "bringing a knife to a gun fight". How do you guys think a comparo would come out using a modified tlr and rc51? Maybe keeping the mods for both to full exhaust, remap, rear shock, steering damper, and reworked forks. Any thoughts?http://www.stud.ntnu.no/home/alexann
If it doesn't make it go fast, stop fast or turn fast, it doesn't have it.

it would be interesting to read about, but it would never happen. no magazine is gonna want to have to eat their words when they actually see how competent the TL really is.2002 TLR B/W. Yoshimura bolt on Titanium cans. Yosh box remap. Joe V airbox mod. plug in TRE. 17/41 sprockets. Zero Gravity double bubble screen.
fan switch. HyperPro steering damper. Extreme Graphic Top Gun undertail. Ohlins rear shock.
Gear: Arai Quantum f. Joe Rocket GPX 1pc suit. Alpinestars Super Tech boots. Alpinestars GP-1 gloves----always wear it all

I'd rather see a comparison:
Here's X amount of dollars (somewhere between $12,000 & $17,000). Find the best deal on a new V-Twin Superbikbike from any dealership (without searching for special magazine discounts or freebies), and mod it with what's left. 03 TLR vs 03 RC51 vs 999 (only if it was closer to $17000 available per bike) vs Mille.
I think that would level the playing field a bit.Carey

I agree. They've dogged the tl's for so long they wouldn't dream of putting this comparison in a magazine. The rc may be a better bike out of the box (maybe, I'm not really sure as I've never ridden one and have no plans to). But If you did the exact same mods I mentioned above to both bikes I think the tlr comes out on top. That includes street and track. Just my .02http://www.stud.ntnu.no/home/alexann

A Superbikes peformance diferences in general only materialize when pushing around 90% of the the bikes ability which u cant do on the road anyway and most riders will not even ride to there own limit let alone the bikes, so unless you are on the track and you have the skills of a racer then maybe thats the time to choose a Mile or a RC51 over a TL .
But like most riders in genral we ride on the road and the TL is more then capable of exceeding the limits that the road conditions and laws impose on us.
As far as I'm comcerned the mags can go suck if they wish to not include a TL in there road test...... but hey, our gain is thre lossRyan, ORIGIN: Irish - from the Gaelic 'Rigan' meaning 'Little King'. I consider myself a good rider with ample experience (track and street). However, I will probably never approach the limits of my tlr even if I was to start doing track days. For me it came down to how I personally felt about the bikes I was looking at. I could've gotten an rc51 for about $1000 more than I paid for the tlr, but I honestly didn't like anything about it.http://www.stud.ntnu.no/home/alexann

I ride with an RC51 on occasions. It is faster and theres not too much you can do to change that. However it is very uncomfortable and not very visually appealing. I do like the side mounted radiators though. Kind of trick, maybe not as practical. Boils down to Honda racing th RC51 in Superbike. Any time that happens manufacturers spend big money on R&D (like Suzuki does on the GSXR1000). If Suzuki had been working on improving the the TL since 97 the way Honda has, it would be a much improved bike and probably spanking the RC. Just my .02....Full Yosh - PCII - K&N - Protek rear sets - Joe V mod - Pair Valve removed - Mobil 1 Synthetic - Shaved subframe - BRG 1/5 throttle - Yellow windscreen - Ministalk signals - Hugger - Manual fan switch - TRE - Gap mod with custom tray - GPS - Krisnett spools - Subrame raised 3/4" - 12 volt plug - Rear brake reservoir in tail - M1 Metzlers - Powerlet lead - Extended drain hose - Quick release seat & tank - Top gun undertail with clear lenses - Clock/Thermometer - License plate on swingarm - Belly

It is ironic, but the one thing I hate about the RC is the side mounted rads. They don't get enough airflow and run hot. It "boils down to that""The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." - George Bernard Shaw

I actually decided on the TLR from an online magazine. Motorcycle.com.... I think. I didn't know anything about the bike before purchasing it so I took a chance. The TLR came in second I believe in the V-twin comparison done in 98-99. Second of course to the Ducati. Remeber, money was no object in the comparison. I know someone still has access to this page. Forget it,
I found it here: http://www.motorcycle.com/mo/mccompare/best2.htmlI know nothing about bikes.
