  • How Long are Forks?

Do you think your forks on your bike are both the same? The quick way to find out is take off the front wheel and see if the axel turns freely! If it does not adjust the vertical postion of one fork untill the axel turns freely. Then look at the postion of the forks above the top triple tree. They may not be the same. But you just got them to stop binding and move together.

very interesting........you would think they would be the same if you haven't played with them from stock. i'll check my axle next time the front tire comes off.

Yeah I do this everytime I have the forks off the bike. I get them close by measuring from the triple clamp, but fine tune by feel with the axle. They don't have to be off by much to have the axle bind up, even just a little is bad.

Just to put a Twist on Thing's ...As a rule all the machined part's that make up the fork's will be to a close tolerance.... Next time the frontend is in the air with the wheel and axle out, pull down on one leg ..yip,the leg will extend even further because of the buffer spring's... could they be what give's a feeling of the fork's being different length's?... Once the axle clamp's are secured that goes away... just my 2c of course
