  • Exhaust leak = Stumbles??

So i gave in to the stealership and let them sync the throttle bodies. he was so sure that they were way off and once I got that taken care of the stumbles would be much better and I wouldn't need the updated computer. Well, $120 later and it is just as bad as it was. Exactly as I figured. I just
thought if I gave him the business he would be more likely to get the computer and be done with it.
He actually told me that they were only a little off and I should't expect it to run any different.
Now it stubles so bad because there is an exhaust leak. But I beat him to it I already have the gasket to fix that. But he assured me that after I fix that I should see a big improvement.

Can an exhaust leak really cause this stumbling that is the exact symptoms of the original ecu??

doesn't sound right to me. where is the exhaust leak? most likely to cause a backfire, but not a running problem. i could see if it were leaking at the head flange and sucking in air at that point it might make a lean condition and the computer could compensate for that and richen the mixture a bit, but it just doesn't sound like the mechanic is being straight with you.

thats what i say. what does the code on your ecu say? 1f40 or 1f41?

if it is the original, i would have then give you an updated ecu. mine runs pretty damn good, considering it has a full yosh pipe set and no pc2 or remap..... but that will change this winter....

so i see you are from kaukauna... ever run the drags there? want to next summer?

its always nice to meet fellow tl owners in your own state....

the TL used an open loop system ie no O2 sensor in the exhaust, the ecu has no idea whats going throught the exhaust so I cant see how an exhaust leak would be causing any troubles like that ... more than likely the mech' is just full of it
