  • Buying a used Tiller. What should I look for?

    Hi all,
i'm going to check out a used TLR later today. I'm wondering what I need to look out for besides the usual wear and tear. Are there any problems that are specific to the TLR that I need to check for?
    It's a 2000.

By the way, what do you think of this price? $4500. The ad is below. The rash on the fairing doesnt look too bad from the pics. The crack looks kinda bad but the fairing is still fine for sure. Just has a big crack in it. Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

    The guy's ad:

10600mi well maintained, never raced/abused, and adult owned. Dropped by “can I test ride it” guy. Rash on upper, crack near light, some minor scrapes.

    Aftermarket mods:
Vance & Hines Carbon Fiber/Stainless Steel exhaust
    K&N air filter
Galfer steel braided front brake lines
    Shortened alloy levers
    Heated vest (adapter installed)
    Hotbodies fender eliminator
    LP footpegs
    LP flush mount front signals
    LP alloy bar ends included
    LP swing-arm sliders/buttons
White Bros. alloy clear rear signals

    welcome to the Planet ......

check all the basics first...tires, chain, sprockets, suspension, fork seals, oil leaks or signs of (oil burnt onto exhaust). i'd check prices on replacement fairings too and see if you can bargain that into the price, although the price is pretty good. good luck.
2002 TLR B/W . Yoshimura bolt on Titanium cans. Yosh box remap. Joe V airbox mod. plug in TRE. 17/41 sprockets. Zero Gravity double bubble screen. fan switch. HyperPro steering damper. Extreme Graphic Top Gun undertail. Ohlins rear shock.

Gear: Arai Quantum f. Joe Rocket GPX 1pc suit. Alpinestars Super Tech boots. Alpinestars GP-1 gloves----always wear it all

Sounds like a good deal. Like the others have mentioned, check out the "run of the mill" stuff. I personally would never buy a bike when with a V&H exhaust on it. IMO that says the owner didnt know what the hell he/she was doing. V&H is seriously out dated/garbage/crap(maybe I'm just a assuming ass ). Good Luck on the purchase though!!!!!

Just an FYI, mine was a 2000 that I bought last year with 1200 miles on it in perfect condition and I paid $5500.00 for it. I'm in Columbus so maybe the mmarket is different here, but that sounds like it might be a little high, see if you can work another 500 bones off it.

If its blue and white, just walk away. That is the restricted model. Alot slower than the Yellow TLR.
Alot of the blue & white owners have tried the TRE mod to make up for the difference.
            By the way.
            I know nothing about bikes.

Have any of you other guys heard anything about Vance & Hines. I want the bike to sound cool like the other TLRs that I've heard.
I've got the cash in my pocket ready to go if the bike is in good shape. Dont wanna get ripped off though.....

              Thanks

Vance and Hines makes good pipes for Harleys, that's about it. I had a V&H full system on my Katana, it sounded pretty good, but that's about it. Hardley no power increases

V&H was good back in the day. For the Tiller, try Yosh, M4 or Two brothers.
