  • Rear Seat Cowl (TLR)

About a month ago, my rear cowl (not the pass. seat) flew off the bike while twisting through the east bay hills towards the "Wall" up in Berkley, CA. I could of swore I had that puppy cinched down and locked! Someone told me that this was a usual occurrance on TLR's. Is that so? Would I be covered under manufacturer's warranty? Any tips on how to keep it secure?

Nevertheless, I ended up ordering one through RonAyers.com for less than anyone else I had looked into. No Suzuki dealerships were quoting me less than $200.00.

same thing happened to me. On my way to work on the freeway and the damn thing just flew off. Then I looked in my mirror and watched the dump truck behind me smash it!

Suzuki might hook you up :dunno you'll have to ask your stealer. I'd say about 50% get the first one free

My seat flew off this weekend I think I forgot to latch it though

I put some duct tape around the bar so its a lot more snug when put on. You know what they say, "if you can't duc it fuck it".

The cowl problem was supposed to be fixed (in '01? Not sure). Most people I've talked to get a free one if it falls off, covered by the warantee. I haven't had the problem on mine and it seems to seat pretty well. There's a fix posted somewhere about this too.

i've done a few different things to help keep the cowl on. PM me if you're interested......hell, just come over. sounds like you're right in my backyard. I was at the "wall" just last week.

ok, didn't want to waste a chance to post some pics.

what i did to help secure the rear cowl was move the latch over a bit. if you look at the location of the latch, it barely has a bite on the hook from the cowl. first pic shows where i'm talking about

if you remove the two 10mm nuts for the latch assy and drop it down you can take a rat tail file and elongate the holes (just a bit) so the latch comes over more and secures the cowl hook better. don't ask why one hole is elongated the wrong way (up?). i never had a problem with it flying off, but i did this just to make sure. it definately makes it more secure.

i also put a piece of adhesive velcro (the soft side of velcro) and trimed it to fit onto the rear latch arm of the cowl. it helps take up some of the space and reduces any vibration to the cowl.

i almost forgot one thing........in the first pic you can see a spring around the release cable. i put a spring from a ball point pen around the cable (trim to fit) to help keep it from vibrating loose or something. i got this idea from another Planet member.

                        Nice photo posting

THat was really good. Mine seems pretty snug as it is. I'll have to see if the previous owner did the same thing. Good insurance.
