  • Difference between TLS & TLR front forks

    Hi
I've been busy revalving & respringing my TLS front forks. I had one badly stuffed TLR front fork lying around. So I decided to do a comparison of the pieces whilst I had my forks stripped.

Besides spring rates, nearly every component is different, between TLS & TLR. The springs are different lengths, the cartridges and spaces are different. I see the valving is totally different in terms of washers(shims) and valve sizes. The fork externals also look different.

I'll post some photo's once I'm more organised.

    Thanks
    Richard

Sounds interesting, I had always thought the difference was basically just the spring rate, although I know the adjusters on the TLR click, and the TLS is infinitely variable. Get those pics up.

The adjusters I see differ through slots which give click effect. The only components that seem the same are:

The caps themselves, with different adjusters. The fork seals. The valve bodies.

The rest the dimensions (length wise) are completely different so that you couldn't use a TLR for TLS spares and vice versa.

I thought the TLR fork was actually abit longer. I knew it had a little better internals. Longer springs with a .85 rate. Which would have a different valving than the TLS. Id would like to see the pics also. A side by side example would be cool to see.

it is possible to merely swap a set of tlr forks on to a tls though, right?

Yeah. That dissident, Doug () , swapped his Racetech/Traxxion forks from his TLS with his bone stock TLR forks.

I have worked over TLS forks on my TLR.

I also have Race Teched TLS forks on my TLR. Interested to see the difference.

See attached photo of standard TLR & TLS inners. The fork outer itself is different in looks slightly but the area that goes through the triple clamp seems the same.

See in photo the TLR is at the bottom. The cartridge for TLR is about 5mm shorter. The TLR spring is shorter and harder. The TLR spacer is longer. The TLR valve stack is different, with more shims and bigger valve openings.

Please see pics of TLR/TLS compression valves. The external size is the same but holes in the valve are larger on the TLR.
