i am stripping down my tls for some clean up work and I notice that the upper fairings when removed broke....the pieces that are on the rear of the fairings that push into the rubber circles. upon further inspectino i noticed that one had already been jb welded before and was wondering what to do.? are they so vital that i need to get new fairings or can i try to jb and have no problems?

I've tried epoxy on the mounting tabs before. The vibration simply weakens them and they always break after a while. Or maybe I didn't give it time to cure before mounting?

Anyway, I finally got the local spray shop to use fibreglass to patch it up for me.

If you really still like to go the epoxy route, here a few tips I picked up from the shop to make it stronger:

1. roughen the area with sand paper
2. use super glue to join the broken pieces
3. on the "joined" whole, apply a thin layer of the epoxy
4. while wet, place a piece of thin mesh cloth on the wet epoxy
5. when it is slightly dry, apply another layer of epoxy covering the mesh cloth

If you do 5. too early, the tool you use to apply the epoxy will simply pull the mesh cloth up.. so use some judgement there.

In the super glue, sprinkle a little baking soda..

Sounds stupid but works pretty durn well.

Or, go to harbor freight and buy a plastic welder for about $30..
