  • Chain length

I have a tls and got a 104 length 530 chain to go with 16/39 sprockets. It is way too long. About how much should I cut off? How much closer does the wheel get for each link?

:dunno Did you count them right? 104 is standard for the 17/38, you can get a 17/40 ratio with 104, I can't remember hearing of people having to cut their chain when they go down to a 16. With your 16/39 (1up on the rear right?) you should be laughing with 104 links.....

      long

That is what I thought. But I went to all the trouble of putting on the chain and the masterlink and it went all the way to the end of the swingarm and was still too loose. I am sure there were 52 brackets which makes 104 links. I have to figure out how to get the master link off now. I cut the chain off with a bolt cutter and now I will take it to a dealer to have them cut it to 102. Do you think 4 links will be enough with that much space to move?

        know

Just so people know. You can fit a 100 link DID 530 oring chain on a TLS with 16/38 sprockets. 102 is optimal.

            it was

It was 16/39 but 100 links was too short for that. 16/38 is with the stops screwed all the way in almost because I got 4 links cut off.

I would say 102 is optimum for 16/38 or 16/39. I hope I did not mess up your memory thing.
