  • Supercharger does 187bhp at Rear Wheel at first attempt....

Supprised is an understatement, I have been feeling very sceptical about the whole project and had serious problems getting it even running right, let alone under boost conditions.

Mapped a couple of box's on the PCIII to get it rich enough to be safe for a quick power run and it held together.

Running about 1 Bar boost (15 psi)

It pulled very strong right to the rev limit, the only thing stopping it hitting well over 200 bhp was the rev limit.

Started at 182 in the morning then gave it another run after lunch on the TLZ dyno day and gained a bit more, bearing in mind this engine isn't even run in yet things can only get better

Anyway, time to chill for a while then get it back for a custom map

There will be some video's at some point with Paul the Dyno guy getting a face full of Rotrex oil mist from the dump valve as the blower needs returning for a replacment oil seal in it

Well done Sam, that would have to be the most powerful TL engine ever wouldnt it , Man are you gunna have fun riding that thing.
How do you think the reliability of that thing will go? i mean you have pulled some serious ponies out of that engine. what will be the compromise?

      Bloody awesome

                  That's a fantastic reult.

Room to de-tune (You might be slower on the courses now - goes against why you used a V-2 in the first place )

I'm not sure to be honest, it's making the same power/torque as my 1040 at between 7-8k rpm, so revs aren't going to kill it.

The weak point I would guess is are the big ends. I build the engine 3 years ago before I sussed the SV crank/rods upgrade, so at the minute it's just running stock TLR items.

I do have a set of Ti Crower rods but it's cheaper to rebuild with stock items

I'm only at the start of a long journey with it, it's passed the first test by actually running to the radline and not exploding, so lots of development to go yet.

The boost is a little higher than expected, I was calculating about 10-12 psi but it's actually about 15 psi. The target was 200 bhp then drop it to about 180 for racing but it's about there now, so I may leave alone.

Fuel pressure is 43 psi rising to about 50 under full boost which is nice and linear and the rest of the fuel system/pump copes well.

We have 3 days racing in 3 weeks, so might be ready for then

It's taken 3 years to this far, the biggest chunk was the Rotrex, about £1400 I recall, the rest was over time so not too bad, I did build the whole bike around it aswell which made it more expensive, such as Marchesini's, SSSA, Ohlins, Radial forks, one off exhaust, alloy Fuel tank etc etc

Lots of that wasn't needed but I decided I was going to race it from an early stage.

I have thought about kits if it prooves to be a success but to be honest getting the drive off the engine is the biggest problem with no easy solution, also to be able to run enough boost to get a worthwhile power increase for your money you need a low compression engine building with all the critical parts new such as pistons/rings/bearings/oil pump etc

You then need different cam timing, machining the crank and covers for the drive, all too much to consider a "bolt on" kit been an option.

If I ever considered building another it would have to be a rich mans toy where I was paid enough to make it worthwhile going through the pain again and ignore all the other engines I build and stuff I do to help people.

One day maybe, but not yet, I haven't finished this journey yet
