  • My order just arrived... are you ready for THIS!

I just got my big order in from Van... and I have it all installed. The sun went down on me after a few pics so I'll add more to this thread when I can take some good ones of the other parts... but I have to share a couple now.

    Are you ready to

Many have asked, none have succeeded, until now... gaze at my SPECIAL EDITION ONE OFF (one off color at least) green pressure plate!

Looks with my green/blue theme!!! (please don't yell at Van if you have asked for a special color... he wanted a guinea pig, I didn't mind the LONG, LONG wait for this and was willing to gamble with the unknown results)

I had to swear to keep it a secret until it arrived... do you KNOW how hard that was! When I first saw the pics (before final milling) I was dancing!

He didn't have fun times with it, and would likely never do another special color, so I feel like I have something special for sure! Sure looks it!!!

Van totally went above and beyond on this piece for me... he had to do it over more than once, and it was generally a pain in the @$$, but just LOOK at that thing! Can you tell I love it?

Who else has a green pressure plate to go with their Kawasaki green Suzuki... NOBODY!

    I'm done gloating now...

    for sure

Black CCC, blue trim ring, blue oil filler cap, green pressure plate, blue retainers, polished bolts:

Here is a shot of the blue top triple:

The whole order... I'll add pics when there is better lighting:

Absolutely bloody gorgeous!!!!!!. I can't wait to get mine, the workmanship looks brilliant; it has to be worth the wait?
I hope Van is getting the Overseas orders ready soon, or we'll all have to keep looking at yours and dribbling
Ghost, any tips on fitting the triple clamp to make the job go smoothly?

Honestly it was easy as hell... totally pain free. It will be very obvious what to loosen and what to put back. Take off as much as you can to get all the room you need. (front fairings, mirrors, mirror support brace, damper, etc...)

My stem head nut was 32mm. Use the proper tool, don't try adjustable wrenches, etc... you scratch it during the install when they (surely will) slip.

You can also use some masking tape aroud the head stem bolt so the socket doesn't make contact when torquing. I actually didn't, I just made sure the socket stayed off the triple, but masking tape is probably best.

You will likely have to tap the old one off once everything is loose (also, use a flathead to "spread" the old triple where they attach to the fork tubes.) I just put a long socket extension under the old triple and tapped it up (alternating sides) with a rubber mallet.

I folded a towel about 4 times and placed that on top of the new triple when tapping the new triple down to avoid any scratches, but it tapped on very easily... probably could've done it without the rubber mallet.

I've proably talked longer than it would take to swap them, once the old one is off.

Check all clearances with your damper and such before final torquing. Check steering stops both ways, etc... I had to make a slight adjustment to my Ohlins damper, literally a couple millimeters from where it was clamped before, but without that adjustment, it didnt' quite hit the steering stop when turning full right.

Just the basics really... it's super easy.

I hope so... it will also be best when it's time to tap the new one on to have someone help you. It was initially a tighter fit than it should be due to the forks slightly tilting due to only being on the lower triple for support.

I just rolled the front wheel up to an immovable object (my car bumper) and had my "helper" slightly push the bike forward, releasing the "slack" if you will... tapped in place with one small tap from the mallet.

You'll know what I mean when you go to put yours on, if yours even do this. I had my top triple off the night before when I knew the parts would be here... so the "drooping" may have been due to them being supported only from the bottom for 24 hours. We're only talking a millimeter or two.

Again, thanks - only trouble is my "helper"/ wife/ boss will probably belt me over the head with my new triple clamp and pressure plate if I ask for her help!. I've found from painful experience that if she's kept in the dark about all these shiny bits, my life is a lot easier - or is it just me?

I agree for the most part... but my shiny parts are rolling in at too frequent a rate to hide them any longer... just means she gets to buy more sh*t for herself.

Of course I'm probaby going to have to work 20 years past retirement age from spending the "savings" on bike parts... but screw it... when it hurts to piss, I'll chew on a shotgun!

If you have never had the upper triple off of a bike before, you will find out how flexible the assembly is. If it is on the ground the stem flexes one way, up on a triple stand, the weight of the wheel, hanging, flexes it in the opposite direction. If you keep it on the ground and lay the new triple in place, you can roll forward and tap the brakes and give it a tiny push. That might be easier than the wall, if you are alone. Two people is best though.
