  • Fact or fiction?

The guy I bought this bike from said it has new larger after market carbs. He had no papers showing this "high dollar" expense.

Heres a picture of one of the carbs. I cant tell you much as far as letters or numbers but, tell me what you think?

its vaguely possible that the internal bore has been machined oversize.

but my bet is he just lied to you.

I've got a bike here at the moment and according to the owner it should have yosh pipes and a powercommander. It hasn't ! he was lied to by the seller. Its a common behaviour

It never ceases to amaze why people ask for advice then when I give it they either ignore it or argue against it.
But then I don't know all that much about TL's

              wwjd.......what would jimmy do.

I always buy based on what can be proven, not what is said. Also claimed to have a 02 motor with only 9k on it installed last month. No papers The VIN on the motor is different than the bike. Just need to search the forum on how to read motor VIN #s to verify.

It has a few cool after market things though.

I have throttle bodies that are bored oversize, you can barely notice the difference unless you take out the butterflies and lay them on top of stock ones.

You were right the first time. No TL left the factory with carbs on the engine. They were all fuel injected.

There is no way to match the engine to the VIN other than via the original title.

The engine number means little too. T501 for TLS, T504 (T505) for TLR. You need a list of known numbers and years to work out roughly when the engine might have been assembled.

Yeah, the Honda equivalent of the TL also came out in '97 for the same price (before the RC51) and was called the VTR here in the US (might have been called a Firestorm in some countries??) and that had carbs.

The VTR1000F (I think was the full model designation) had carbs. Firestorm to some SuperHawk for others.
