  • Led changed blinker speed. I wonder...

If changing my relay like Ive read about in another thread will slow down my blinker to normal. The thing is, I have standard lights up front and LEDs in the rear. Will this special relay work for both types of blinkers?

Do I need to go LEDs up front too?

The constant-speed flasher unit will blink at he same rate regardless of load. You can use it with any mix of any type. They were orignially meant for cars with trailers, where people want them to blink the same rate regardless of whether the trailer is plugged inot the harness.

Or you can add resistors in parallel with the LED lights so they blink at the old rate with the old flasher. But the LEDs are more efficient, so why add resistors to negate this improvement and just waste electrical power as heat?
It's about control skill; this is a motorized dance for joy and not Russian roulette.

What is the problem with fast flashers? I think it makes me more noticeable. the law does not state how fast blinkers have to flash. The object is to make the other drivers SEE YOU ,and the faster flash will be seen. T.L.

The problem is really how dim they are. I was told by my neighbor that the fast blink is causing a drop in power and they dont fully light up as bright as they should. In the day time you can barley see the color.

He said he had the exact same problem on his SV1000. once he fixed the relay they all went bright.

I dont know? is he right?

If the led's are not bright enought then you need to get different led's. Changing out the flasher will not make them brighter. If you are some what mechanically and electronically inclined you can get a flasher here for $9 and there is a wright up here on how to install it.

The instant on / off of the the LED's make them suitable for fast flashing IMHO

We have a law covering the flash rate here - and duty cycle. From memory it is 120 / minute maximum. I bought the ADR's off the governement to check all that crap out, the disks are around here somewhere. Light heights, distances betweeen indicators, acceptable colour range etc etc, I'm surprised the US had no regulations on indicators - if there are no flash rate laws, then are indicators not compulsory?
