    Hopefully this thread will help someone

    Symptoms:

    Running lean -not so deep sounding, very "poppy"
    RPMs do not drop as fast as they should
    Idle is high (2K) when warm/ normal (1.2K) when cold


    Diagnosis:

    *Check for codes -no codes
    *Remove airbox
    *Inspect electrical connections -map sensor plugged in? TPS plugged in?
    *Check TPS postion -position seemed to be accurate but adjusting the TPS would not make the bike staul which it should
    *Inspect vacuum lines & routing -look for leaks
    *Inspect intake boots (pipe) -are the TBs seated? Are there cracks? Can you see evidence of the O ring being blown out?
    *Check for major leaks -at idle, cover front intake with your hand and remove, then cover the rear and remove. Note the suction of each -is there a difference? Does one feel stronger? The weaker one has the leak.

    For me the TPS did not make the bike staul and the suction on the rear intake was less than the front when I covered the intake with my hand. I could also see a little piece of the O ring sticking out where the boot meets the head.
    Getting the boots off is a bitch! I suggest patience. Make sure you have a very snug fitting allen wrench -hammer it into the hole a bit then turn. In my experience one will break loose and one will strip. remove the one you can hammer in a star bit. While applying pressure to loosen turn the entire boot -it should break loose. If not rip off the TB boot leaving the bolt exposed and use vise grips!

    New TB boots are $50 from ronayers, BUY NEW ONES!

    In my case I have spare parts -I swapped out the boot, syc'd the TB's set the TPS and now I'm good!

    Good find. They're more often called manifolds, inlet / intake manifolds

    Another way to test for vacuum leaks is to get a spray bottle and fill it with dishwashing detergent or something a little thick and easy to clean up. With the engine running, spray around the TB's and manifolds etc wit hsingle deliberate and aimed shots. When the liquid hits the vacuum leak it slows the leak down and you can hear the change in the engine running when you do it.
