  • eBat Item: Passenger Seat Luggage Shelf Thingy

    Unsolicited testimonial.

I searched and found a post from March, but thought I would start a new thread. I ran across a guy last week on eBay offering what amounts to an aluminum plate that mounts in place of the passenger seat. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_500wt_1182

Now, I don't plan on loading up NEAR as much stuff as this guy did in the auction picture, but you get the idea. I'm thinking I might fab up a vertical bracket for the rear part of the plate to allow me to bungie around an item like a tail truck bag or whatever. If not, it at least offers a nice, flat surface for my laptop to rest on in the tail bag. I bent a MacBook chassis year before last strapping it down to cushioned seat.

At any rate, the bracket looks acceptably thick for the chore. It's got ten bungie hook cutouts around the perimeter, and has some sort of black powder coat finish on the shelf itself. The brackets that interface with the seat latch are steel, and quite a bit heftier than the shelf itself. Really looks like a first-rate product to me. Makes me want to do a road trip.

I haven't used it yet, but I can't imagine it not being up to the task.

    YMMV,

looks like cyclecampers old avatar, the one where it looks like a TL in front of a portopotty and then you realize he has a huge amount of gear strapped to the back of his TL

I had seen that once before and was hoping to find it again. Now maybe I can stop scratching my tank up with a bag.

On my last trip I had my CoreTech saddle bags with matching tail bag AND a tank bag. I'm thinking with this bracket arranged properly, I can load all that crap on the back of the bike and stop worrying about scratching the tank as well.

On the other hand, think how much more crap I can drag cross-country if I put an extree bag on the back like that AND keep the tank bag!

That was a Ventura luggage rack, with two Ventura bags on it. I got one of these removable racks now too, and I'm going to fit a hoop like the Ventura hoop to it too.

Get a second seat with a torn top, cost very little on eBay, then strip off the cover and foam, bolt a crate directly to the seat pan.

I will still keep the tank bag. Just won't be putting it on the tank unless necessary. Thanks Matt for posting up the link.
