  • Driving in China, unbelievable!

Driving in China, are you glad you don't live there?

I don't see any signs or stop lights. Looks like they haven't learned
how to drive with lots of bikes on the roads.

At least the streets are clean...

You aren't going to believe this...this is real chaos on the
highway...maybe there is no right-of-way... or else they haven't
    figured that part out yet....

Sounds like Austria to me... I fear for my life every time I swing my leg over the bike..

It's not the crash that kills you. It's the sudden stop.

I seriously think that is the best compilation video I have ever seen. How did you find that one?

A friend of mine in Oklahoma sends me lots of interesting stuff, he gets them from his friends who I guess have lots of time on their hands to trawl through youtube etc, Bob.

Amazing. The lack of common sense is hilarious, but the lack of braking prior to (and after) all of the wrecks leaves me speechless. Those drivers should not be trusted with roller skates.

It's funny that it's dated 2006...that's when I was there for a few weeks.

Those videos were pretty spot-on to what I saw with my own eyes and experienced as a passenger.

We hired a cab for the day to take us from Beijing to the Great Wall and back. We gave him 30% up front and the remainder upon return to the city and he was cool with that. It was extremely hot out and his little 4 cylinder van (probably an air cooled engine) was having a hell of a time in the dense traffic of northern Beijing with 5 passengers. His van was overheating so he first turned off the A/C and when that wasnt enough he started driving on the wrong side of the street into opposing traffic while laying on his horn pretty hard. Soon that became a problem so he took to the sidewalks and was just plowing through pedestrians (never hitting any but coming damned close) while trying to keep his van, and likely only means of income, from blowing up. We made it back to the hostel where he let his poor van rest for a few hours before finally taking off.

I can't count how many bicyclists I saw get plowed through by cagers either....only one major injury from them all was quite surprising.

I'm glad we stuck to public transportation the whole way through....
