  • troubles with projectors

I have now bought 2 sets of HID projectors and only 1 bulb on both sets will switch into the high beam ARGH this sucks!! anyone else had this problem?

stupid chineese crap this is so frusturating! on top of it, the sets are totally different, so I cannot take the "good" one from both to make a good set.

Have you modified your front harness so both lights will come on at the same time? Normally we only have 1 lamp for high beam, not both.

I assume that is what you are talking about.

        Re: troubles with projectors

If it is true HID (not filament bulbs), the lighting change will not be in the bulb.

The housing has a solenoid actuated flapper/eyelid type thing inside that partially shrounds the lens for low beam, flips up for high beam.

It sounds like you have a set of headlights and a set of driving lights.

          Re: troubles with projectors

supra, they are true HID and they are bixenon so there is a flapper in the headlight housing. i got 2 sets and only one light switches into the high beam on both sets. I have switched all the wiring around and done every configuration possible and the same light no matter what will not flip into high beam.

So, i am baffled, is it possible i got 2 sets of defective lights or is it something on the TL that is doing this?

I have seen nothing about what TickLR has said, I cant find anything on the " modified your front harness so both lights will come on at the same time? Normally we only have 1 lamp for high beam, not both.
          "

If anyone can help this would be great im so pissed!!

            Re: troubles with projectors

I am assuming that the flapper is not moving. Did you test the flappers by applying 12v to all 4 of your lights? You can either hear them click or see them move with the bulbs out. If you get nothing, obviously broken.

Oversimplified wiring (if flapper is normally shrouding lens):

Negative - to both bulbs/ballasts and to the flapper

Positive low beam - to both bulbs/ballasts

Positive high beam - to both bulbs/ballasts and to the flapper

              Re: troubles with projectors

I installed all the wiring/lights to the bike and hit the high beam on the handle bar and only one switches into high beam on one light, not both. I bought 2 different sets and it is happening on both sets. If i switch the light to the other side of the wiring, the same light does not switch into high

Sounds like its not wired correctly.

                    Re: troubles with projectors

i have the positive to the positive terminal, and the negative to the negative terminal, the ballasts and the wiring all has a to b connectors that are impossible to mis wire and there is one H4 plug that I have plugged into the headlight connector

on the other kit, the only difference is there is 2 h4 connectors. am I supposed to cross wires between the lights or something?

                    thanks guys

                      Re: troubles with projectors

the regular low beams work as well as the halos , it is only a problem with the high beam in one light

Get Mikey in here. He told me once that the lights are wired in series I think. Get with Mikey.

Can the 2 good lights be used together?

Did you manually test the flapper by applying voltage to just the solenoid wires?

I don't remember what wire goes to what. I took a 30 amp relay and wired up the lights so both lights are on when the high beam is switched is turned on. If I remember correctly there are 2 hot wires for each light. When you turn on the high beam it cuts power from one side and powers up the other side. It is not that hard but like I said I don't remember how I wired it up.
