  • New to the forum, and this pig of a bike (with pics)

    Hi everyone!

Just picked up a new to me 98 TLR and just wanted to say hi and throw some pics up. This thing has a 15 million miles, looks like it was beat with a stick and is payed for! I'm not new to the twins as i have an 00 RC51 collecting dust in the garage but i've always wanted a TLR so i jumped at the chance to buy this piglet. It's got problems (lots) that need sorted and def. needs a tune up and pretty much everything gone over but hell it runs good and doesn't make any crazy noises its not suppost to. As you can see by the pics it got yoshi cans, i don't know these bikes well enough to know if the header is yoshi or not, yoshi cover, marvic spintec wheels and it even came with tons of abuse/neglect for no extra cost!! The extras that were included were a complet extra motor, stock wheels, and misc other bit and pieces. Right now the main issues are the lights/gauges flicker, the brakes suck even after i bleed them today (pads are shot I'm sure), and the general rash that seems to be all over it. Oh, and the speedo doesn't go over 40 mph. Soon to be on it, undertail, speedo healer, PC3 (needs it badly), and a very thorough tune up. Well thanks for letting me be long winded, and here are some pics of her. Comments and advice welcome!

Hey guys, if you see something glaring that stands out you that needs to be fixed or you might have laying around (mirrors, bar ends) to fix said issues please PM with what you've got. Just keep in mind i've had the bike less than 48hrs. thanks Chris

It's got potential. Just from the picture it looks like you've got the full yoshi exhaust system. Enjoy your TLR it's a wild good time.

It never ceases to amaze why people ask for advice then when I give it they either ignore it or argue against it.
But then I don't know all that much about TL's

          wwjd.......what would jimmy do.

The penske is good stuff. The wheels are nice. Yosh full system. Doesn't need much.
It's about control skill; this is a motorized dance for joy and not Russian roulette.

Dont know what you paid for it, but if you know how much all that extra kit cost new,you probably only paid for the wheels, rear shock & pipes,etc...& got the rest of the bike thrown in almost for free.

                welcome.

Yeah I don't know what's too much money for it these days but I don't have a ton of coin in it. I did forget to mention it had the penske and lindemann link earlier. I've got some leads on a braking rear rotor and and a set of ebc's for the front to lighten think up. I was mistaken on the wheels, they are Marvic Superspins, they've been discontinued from what i have read. The motor seems rattley, cam chain/valve train noise to me. From lurking on here the 2 of days the noises are normal, just need to do the valve adjustment to feel comfy. I searched about my speedo, but didn't come up with anything about it reading very very slow. I'd say its off but that's and understatement.

Holy shit it's a pecker checker!! You on a boat or hangin with the marines doc? Yeah pretty hacked and beat on but i think i can clean it up without braking the bank on this one. I learned my lesson on my supermoto, so spending wisely this time is key!

Just left the Marines, working on my IDC stuff here in San Diego for now. Then who knows where I'll be going, hopefully NSW! You got a shopping list for that thing yet?

Are in IDC school? One of my buddies is going through right now, HM1 Josh Smith, he's a DMT.

                            Hmmm...shopping list.
                            -Ohlins steering dampner
                            -F/R lightweight rotors
                            -vanzuki's billit res's
                            -speedo healer
                            -PC3
                            -helibars

Mostly this thing needs to be gone through maintenance wise...that's were my attention is at the moment. Then it'll be cosmetics unless i stumble on some good deals on perf parts. I'm headed down to Panama City Fl for another school before I head out to Guam in Mar11 so I only have 6 months with this girl before she and my other two bikes get mothballed unfortunatly.
