  • TLR overheats quick in traffic HELP!!

I have a manual fan switch and even with it on my bike gets real hot real quick. It seems like by the time the thermostat opens the temp has already jumped 10-15 degrees. It does fine as long as Im moving the whole time. I have my headers wrapped.
Anyone have any ideas? is there a way to relocate the thermostat so it reacts quicker? Im desperate please help!

What temp is displayed on the dash that you consider "overheating"?

Do you have enough coolant in it? Trapped air in the system? Is the water pump working as it should? Are the radiator hoses reletively cool compared to the engine temp?

Let's see, what else can you test for without stripping it down.....?

what makes you think it's "overheating"

When was the system last maintained Read the manual, time to learn something.

Assuming things are wrong without all the facts is a waste of time. I think your worrying too much.

          .

The fans don't normally come on until about 106C / 223F or so.

The dash will warn you that it is overheating at 120C / 248F. And you should shut it down - or start moving.

If you ignore that. it has another warning at 140C / 284F.

(But the ECU will never shut the engine down to over temperature).

On top of the normal trouble shooting of plugged radiator tubes and thermostat functionality, or lean or rich air/fuel ratio, some of these suggestions may help. Do keep in mind that TL's normally run hot when sitting.

What coolant and percentage are you using?
Engine Ice and Water Wetter are the preferred choice for TL's.

What is the ambient temp that you riding in?
The manual fan switch is a common mod. Also swapping the automatic fan switch to one of the following will turn the fans on at a lower temp.
            Geo Metro fan switch:
            SUZUKI : 17680 50 F10
            ECHLIN : FS154
            AC DELCO : A1854
            STANDARD : TS306
            4 SEASONS : 36567
            WELLS : SW1888

Muzzy used to make an aluminum fan blade to replace the factory plastic. There's not much feedback as to it's success, but tracking one down may help. Part# HT-H1.

This is a handy list Suprachrgd82. Do these have the same thread diameter and pitch? And will the TL's connector fit them?

All you need in an inch or two of Teflon tape and a crescent wrench.

she will overheat if you are sitting still on a 90'F day with the engine idleing. the TL is a heat monster, all there is too it.

the manual fan switch mod really REALLY helps. when you see some "sitting still time" comming, flip it on. I can keep the bike under 200'F if i'm not just sitting still for an hour.

                  Really helps
