  • Venting....f*ck theives

So I've been back and forth with myself on the "should I keep it" or "should I sell it" debate in regards to my TL since purchasing another bike this last March.

I kept it around this year but barely put on 25 miles (where the new Honda got close to 8,000 miles) so it mostly sat dormant in my parking spot right outside of my apartment. Sometime between Sunday afternoon & Monday afternoon someone decided to liberate my registered license plate from the TL. It looks like they may have tried to get it off the VTX too but thanks to having that bike under a tight cover and using theft proof fasteners I was saved from having to report a second plate stolen.

I live in a great neighborhood so this just proves anyone of any class, race, income or religion can be a total asshat.

I realized 2 things from this:

    1) The TL, though it runs like new, was extremely costly per mile ridden. I paid insurance through the whole year, had to pay for an additional parking spot all year, and now I'll have to pay to re-register the damn thing all for 25 miles of usage.

    2) I hate community living and I need a garage. To help pay for a house one of the bikes is going to have to go and the decision was just made easier this weekend.

Sorry, I had to vent. I'm going to keep my eyes open for my old plate and the new "owner" better hope the cops get there with their guns drawn before I get to them. In the mean time, both bikes are going to my friends garage for winter stoarge & clean up.

Over there the reg is registered to the owner, not like here where it is registered to the vehicle.

What can they do with the plate Frank?

Ride around with it on until a Cop following them calls it in or something? Seal a tank's worth of fuel from a gas station?

Car plates over here will get boosted for stealing fuel, but it's not a big deal, just a pain in the arse to get new ones (unless they're personalised - then it's a pain). I can't say I know of anyone who's had a bike plate taken.

          Correct.

They can slap it on an unregistered bike (that may be stolen or otherwise unable to be registered) and keep the police from pulling them over for simply not having a plate. I know a few spots where "stunters" hang out with their wrecked/stolen bikes but it's coming up on winter here so I won't likely be able to look until the coming spring.

That sucks about the stolen plate but at least the bike was still there. And if it helps any (not likely) you rode 25 more miles than I did on my TLS this year. Come spring time I need to sell it... which won't be easy even if it makes sense after owning it for 13 years now. At least mine is nice and comfy in the basement though. Hell, most of my miles were ridden on a street legal TTR250 this year just bopping around town
