  • Polishing wheels

I have the plain grey wheels, and I'm thinking of polishing them up. Do you have to do the oven-cleaner thing with wheels like you do the frame?

i believe so and still have to hit it with a fine grit also for any pits.

No, you need airline paint stripper/remover to get the paint off the rims. I bought a can of the stuff at Walmart for $6....works very well. Be careful with it.

        crusher is right.

you will need aircraft stripper, got mine at an auto paint supply $9.

Sandpaper and pollishing wheels for the spokes and centers.

Lots of time, elbo-grease and BEER.

        :twothumbs

P.S. don't mix the beer and stipper. Usually this is a good combination, but I don' t think the beer will taste that good with this stripper.

Hell yeah that stuff makes a mess. But it is cool to see how it makes the paint bubble up and just peel away

And the front wheel is 10x worse because it's podercoted instead of painted like the back

Then there are grooves....those have to be sanded smooth.

get ready for SEVERAL ours of fun

When I was doing the rims on my bike, I got up to get a couple more pieces of cloth... my dog came trotting over, spilt the can on the mat I was sitting on and I sat on the damn stuff!!

AAAAAGGHHHH!!!! (luckily no scars, but shit it hurt!).

It's nasty stuff, but it does the job!

Earl, KEEP YOUR DOG AWAY FROM CHEMICALS.

Sorry, I worked with a vet and saw a dog stroke OUT from going after some Anti-freeze (it's sweet and they go straight for it). I go overboard on making sure the dog isn't even around when I'm using any kind of chemical, and cleanup is done ASAP.

:twothumbs I'm sure you're carefull. I just wanted to reaffirm that.:twothumbs

                        Bill,

I tried keeping the damn dog away. The door was to the garage was shut, but my wife came out and asked if I wanted a beer (you aint gonna turn it down now are you?) and the damn dawg ran in... :dunno

                        The rest is history!

Yea I used that stripper on my fairing stay. I held a rag over the top and turned it upside down till there was some on the rag and then turned it right side up and wiped it on. But one time I did it too quick and it splattered. Got some on my arm and within seconds it was burning like no other. Didnt strip it completely, fairing stay that is. I ended up buying a paint stripping abraisive wheel for my drill and finished it up. Im wanting to do my rims but just the lips.
